POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Sophomore
Milind Joshi (Pune, India) earned a hard-fought five-set victory over Hamilton's Jarrod Gerstein on Tuesday evening, but the Brewers fell 8-1.
Milind played the No. 6 position, and bounced back-and-forth against his opponent. He took the first set 11-8 and then dropped the second 11-4. The third and fourth sets were closer, with Milind taking the third 11-9, but then falling 11-8. The sophomore then rolled to an 11-4 final set victory.
The Continentals swept the Brewers in the first five positions. No. 1
Viraj Nadkarni (Mumbai, India) fell to Callum Sondhi by scores of 11-7, 11-5 and 11-8.
Caden Gruber (Costa Mesa, CA) dropped the 3-0 decision, but had a close 11-8 second set against Atticus Jones. No. 3 Alex Wiseneski (Mechanicsburg, PA), No. 4
Henry Mitchell (Yardley, PA) and No. 5
Isaac Stuart (Swampscott, MA) all fell 3-0.
Senior
Travers Parsons-Grayson (Newport, VT) forced four sets against Jarrod Gerstein, but was edged 3-1 at the seventh spot. Parson-Grayson won the first set 11-8, but dropped the next two 11-8 and 11-9 before falling 11-3 in the fourth. Freshman
Reese Collins (Bedford, NH) fought hard in his match with John Buckley. After going down 2-0, Collins bounced back with a 12-10 win in the third, but ultimately fell 11-4 in the fourth set.
Eric Chen (Poughkeepsie, NY) dropped the ninth spot to Nick Randolph.
Vassar now travels to Canton, NY for the Liberty League Championships on Feb. 2-3. St. Lawrence hosts and matches are set to start at 10 a.m.
