CAMBRIDGE, MA (February 18, 2018) – The Vassar women's squash team secured fifth place in the Epps Cup at CSA Nationals as they set a new program record with 15 wins in a single season. The Brewers played a tough match against Haverford, topping the
Fords 5-4 at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center at MIT.
Starting at the bottom for Vassar, both
Julia Pollak and
Kelly Rissman took home points for the Brewers at Nos. 9 and 8. Pollak secured a three-game sweep over Belen Madariaga while Rissman fought for five games. The senior won the first before dropping the second and third. Rissman regained control and won the final two, 11-3, 12-10.
Vassar's next two wins came from
Samantha Henderson at No. 6 and
Alessandra Pilkington in the fourth spot. Henderson won quickly in three games, but Pilkington was forced to play four in her matchup. Pilkington earned two quick wins before falling in the third, and in the fourth she rebounded for an 11-8 win.
Hannah Nice picked up the final win for Vassar, winning 3-1 at the No. 1 spot. Nice took down Kaitlin Reese 11-6, 9-11, 11-5, 11-3 to secure the Brewer victory.
Vassar finished their trip to CSA Nationals with a 2-1 record over the three days, while posting an overall mark of 15-6 throughout the season.
