ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – There was a total of 14 individual sweeps in the Vassar women's squash teams' victories over Bard and Smith at the Bard Round Robin on Saturday morning. The Brewers first picked up the 8-1 decision against the Raptors, and then swept Smith in the second match.
Vassar 8, Bard 1
Claire Coss (Penn Valley, PA) picked up a sweep over Olivia Terzian with scores of 11-5, 11-9 and 11-3 at the first position.
Julia Pollak (San Francisco, CA) and
Amanda Watson (Falmouth, ME) cruised to 3-0 decisions over their opponents with neither allowing more than three points in a set. Â Â
At the fourth spot,
Alexa Elias (New York, NY) won the first two sets 11-2 and 11-6. Her opponent made the sweep a little tougher, but Elias managed to pull off the 13-11 final set.
No. 5
Allegra von Hirschberg (Mbablane, Swaziland) tallied a 3-0 outcome against Riti Bahl, while
Nicole Pihlstrom (Fort Collins, CO) won in four sets against Jackie Lerman.
Lily Hammer (Wethersfield, CT) and
Mira Michels-Gualtieri (Washington D.C.) rounded out the match with two sweeps.
Vassar 8, Smith 0
Every Vassar player swept their Smith opponent 3-0 in the second round of the day. Coss tallied 11-0, 11-5 and 11-8 wins at the first position. Pollak picked up her fourth win of the season going 11-4, 11-7 and 11-4. Watson, Elias, von Hirschberg, Pihlstrom, Hammer and Michels-Gualtieri tacked on wins for the third to eighth positions.
The Brewers wrap up the Bard Round Robin tomorrow with a dual match against Rochester.
