HAMILTON, N.Y. – The young Vassar women's squash team stayed competitive in Saturday's Colgate Round Robin, but fell to experienced Bucknell and William Smith teams. Claire Coss (Penn Valley, PA) forced four sets in both her matches, while Julia Pollak (San Francisco, CA) was narrowly edged out in a five-set battle against Bucknell.

At the No. 1 position, Coss faced Madison Bradley in a tight match. Bradley took the first set 11-9, but Coss fought back for a strong 16-14 second-set win. Bradley kept the pressure up though and won the final two sets 11-6 and 11-9. Allegra von Hirschberg (Mbabane, Swaziland) had a solid start at the No. 4 spot, but Molly Wachter fought back to win 3-1. No. 5 Alexas Elias (New York, NY) forced four sets after winning the first 11-6 against Karina Lazaro, but eventually fell in the fourth.

Bucknell 9, Vassar 0
Coss claimed her first set 11-10 and kept the scores close, but fell 12-10, 11-9 and 11-7 in the final sets against Kelly Clark. Pollak had an intense duel against the Bison's Anna Hart at the No. 2 position that went five sets. She had a rough start, dropping the first set 11-5, but flipped the script by winning the second 11-5 and then won the third with 12-10. Hart rallied in the fourth with a close 13-11 win, and eventually slipped by in the final with a score of 11-7. Amanda Watson (Falmouth, ME) forced four sets against an experienced Sophia Hartman, but was downed 3-1 in the end and the third position.

The Vassar women return to action on Nov. 17-18 to compete in the Bard Round Robin.
