POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 28, 2018) – The Vassar women's squash team went 1-1 on Senior Day in Kenyon Hall playing against Connecticut College and Northeastern. The Brewers began the day with a tough 4-5 loss to Conn. College, but bounced back for an 8-1 win over Northeastern.
In their match against Conn. College, it was tied 4-4 after eight and came down to the No. 4 game with
Alessandra Pilkington and Denise Bonilla. Pilkington forced four games after winning the second 11-7 and dropped the next two, 11-5, 11-6. Vassar won matches at No. 1 and No. 2 behind
Hannah Nice and
Sydney Nemphos. Nice took a 3-0 sweep while Nemphos played five, winning the second, third, and fifth games. The Brewers other two wins came from
Samantha Henderson at No. 5 and
Rebecca Slotkin at No. 9. Henderson won in a marathon playing five games, winning the last 15-13 after being behind in the final game. Slotkin picked up a win in the last spot with a clean sweep of Jordyn Turin.
Against the Huskies, Nice and Nemphos picked up their second wins of the day in the top two spots. Jiamin Wi earned a win the third spot, playing four games against Jessica Qui. Pilkington picked up a sweep at the No. 4 spot, 11-8, 11-7, 11-3. And the bottom half of the ladder for Vassar all took home sweeps with
Emma Glickman,
Kelly Rissman, and
Julia Pollak all helping the Brewer cause. Not to be left out, senior
Cherylann Mucciolo went four games in her win at the No. 6 position.
The Brewers will head to the Seven Sisters Championships next Saturday hosted by Smith College.
