Men’s Swimming Topped By Trinity Saturday, 172-106

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 13, 2018) – The Vassar College men's swimming & diving team hosted Trinity College (CT) for its first home meet in nearly two months, dropping a non-conference outing to the Bantams 172-106 despite some very strong swims from the Brewers in action from Kresge Pool.

The Brewers started the day with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, barely getting edged out at the finish to post a 1:39.37 thanks to the efforts from senior Jonah Strand, sophomores Matthew Imiolek and Harrison Taylor and newcomer Max White.

In the pool next for Vassar was sophomore Jordan Kalina, who finished second with a season-best time of 10:32.72. His previous best was a 10:40.87 set before the Holiday break at the Don Richards Invitational at RIT.

In the 200 freestyle, VC picked up its first victory of the day for the Brewers thanks to White with his 1:49.11, while Finn Belanger chalked up his season-best time of 2:00.12 for fourth place. Strand was out for his first individual event of the afternoon, and he took the top spot with a 1:00.48 in the 100 breaststroke.

In the 200 butterfly, Taylor took second place with a season-best time of 2:10.68, while Imiolek was also second in the 100 freestyle after swimming a 52.10. Parker Bartz was fourth in the 100 free with a season-best time of 53.35. Imiolek was also second in the 50 free with a 22.58.

In the 200 backstroke, White finished second after posting a 2:03.39, followed by Strand's second individual win of the day with a 2:13.60 in the 200 breaststroke. Kalina was back in the pool to claim victory in the 500 freestyle for Vassar, posting a 5:04.66 which was just off his season-best time in the event. Belanger also posted a season-best time in the 500 free with a 5:25.20 for fourth place.

White would claim another victory for Vassar in the 100 butterfly, as the freshman chalked up a 53.99 in the 100 butterfly, while Taylor was fourth just off his season-best time with a 56.45. Strand followed the second diving break with another individual win, this time posting a 2:04.24 in the 200 IM.

In diving Saturday, Vassar's Marvin Corleto finished in second place with a score of 126.30. The Brewers will be back in action in two weeks, taking on Pace University Saturday, January 27 at 1 p.m. in Kresge Pool.
