Last Time Out: Vassar competed in a non-timing system meet down in Florida during its training trip, though it was more of an inter-squad meet. The 200m medley relay "A" team of Max White (32.6), Danny Dunn (36.9), Harrison Taylor (29.4), and Matthew Imiolek (27.8) narrowly out-swam the Vassar "B" team with their 2:09.10.  Finishing the meet, the Vassar men's 200 free relay showcased some impressive splits: White (27.3), Finn Belanger (30.7), Jordan Kalina (29.36), Taylor (28.5), Imiolek (28.14), Dunn (30.61), Parker Bartz (30.6), and Jonah Strand (29.93).

A Look At The Brewers (2-3):

  • The Brewers will return to action for the first time since December 1-2, as VC finished third of five teams at the Don Richards Invitational at RIT. Vassar, who has been swimming with just over 10 swimmers all season, showed a ton of heart to take down a pair of Liberty League teams at that meet.
  • Vassar's last home meet was Friday, November 17, a 148-116 loss to local rival New Paltz.
  • In the distance events, Vassar has been paced by sophomore Jordan Kalina, who has a season-best in the 500 free of 5:02.88, seventh-best in the Liberty League. He is also Vassar's top 1000 free swimmer, with a 10:38.24 booked as his season-best.
  • Freshman Max White has shined for VC in the water this year, as he ranks fourth in the Liberty League in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.92. Later in the meet he became Vassar's top 200 back swimmer in program history, clocking an all-time VC best of 1:57.99, which sits as the Liberty League's best time in the event this year.
  • Senior Jonah Strand comes into the weekend meet as the Liberty League top swimmer in the 100 breast with a time of 58.23, while seeded third currently in the conference in the 200 breast with a time of 2:08.34.
  • White is fifth in the conference with a 53.36 in the 100 butterfly, while Harrison Taylor posted a season-best time of 53.60 against New Paltz in the 100 fly.
  • Sophomore Matthew Imiolek has been a standout in the short free events this year, leading the Brewers with a 22.36 in the 50 free. He is also second on the team in the 100 free with 50.41.
  • In the 200 IM, Strand tops the list for the Brewers with a 1:58.90 at RIT, while White is Vassar's 400 IM top time after swimming a 4:24.81 against RPI.

A Look At The Bantams (2-1):

  • Trinity swims in arguably the best Division III conference for swimming, and has some standouts after earning wins over Wheaton (MA) and Wesleyan this season. Trinity also finished first of seven teams at Hamilton back on December 2.
  • Trinity will lean on Radojica Pavlovic in the short free events, as he leads the team with times of 21.65 and 48.21 in the 50 and 100 free swims.
  • Grigori Kalmiskii has also been strong across the board in all free events, leading the way in the 200 free with a 1:46.39, while having the team's best 500 free time as well with a 4:52.59.
  • Charles Roth tops the 100 backstroke listing for Trinity with a 53.83, while Kalmiskii and Alexander Kapanadze are 1-2 in the 200 back with times of 1:57.82 and 1:58.58, respectively.
  • Blake Jamilkowski has the Bantam's best 100 breast time, while George Kapanadze is the 200 breast leader with a time of 2:20.46.
  • Kalmiskii sits atop the Bantam leaders in both butterfly events, while Alexander Kapanadze is the top option in the 200 IM for Trinity with a 2:02.74.
  • Trinity is led on the boards by Alexander Schrock, who has scores of 230.33 and 213.74 in the 1-meter and 3-meter events.

Up Next: The Vassar men are off for two more weeks following the meet with Trinity, taking on Division II Pace University January 27 at home at 1 p.m. in Kresge Pool.
