Last Time Out: Last weekend Vassar fell to both Skidmore College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on the road 19-5 and 12-5, respectively. The Brewers will look to turn their momentum around this weekend for a shot at making the playoffs.
A Look at the Brewers (6-7, 3-4 LL):
- The Brewers currently sit one game out of the Liberty League playoffs in a crowded middle of the pack. Six teams enter the weekend at either 4-3, 4-4, or 3-4.
- Vassar has been excellent in late-game situations this year, outscoring their opponents 69-58 in second halves.
- The Brewers have excelled at moving the ball. They currently sit at third in the Liberty League with 4.31 assists per game
- Junior goalkeeper Emily Chancey has transformed into one of the top goalies in the league this year. She has posted a save percentage of .523, good for third in the league while averaging 8.69 saves per game.
- Freshmen Tessa Waters and Kelly Pushie are both making a good case for Liberty League rookie of the year. They have 33 and 29 points respectively.
- Waters was essential on loose ball situations this weekend, grabbing seven ground balls to push her season total to a team-leading 23.
- Sophomore middie Fiona MacLeod, chipped in on the offensive end with a goal and a couple assists over the weekend while only turning the ball over twice
A Look at the Golden Knights (6-8, 4-4)
- The Brewers are 12-5 against Clarkson all time. Last year, they dropped a close one 13-9.
- Clarkson has seen their playoff hopes fall away, dropping five straight after a triple overtime loss to RPI at the beginning of the month. They had won their previous eight before the slide.
- The Knights have been in all of the games, however, losing by an average of just 2.4 goals/game.
- Clarkson brings one of the strongest offensive punches in the league, netting 11.73 goals/game and putting up 26.6 shots/game.
- Clarkson relies heavily on individual playmakers in their stellar offense. Of Clarkson's 176 goals, 120 of them have been unassisted.
- In transition opportunities, opponents have failed to complete a clearance over 30% of the time against the Golden Knights.
- Leading the offensive charge is sophomore Jaid Baytos. She has notched 39 goals and dished out 14 assists.
- At her side, Kate Dillon has put together a nice campaign as well, finishing off 35 goals and grabbing 29 ground balls. He also leads the team in shot percentage at .486.
- On the defensive end Taylor Collins has played swarming defense lately, forcing four turnovers against both RIT and RPI. She leads the team with 23 on the year.
A Look at the Saints (7-7, 4-3)
- The Brewers are 5-13 against St. Lawrence all time, but have taken three of the last four matchups.
- The Saints have turned their season around at the perfect time, winning three of their last four. They now hold the final spot in the Liberty League playoffs headed into the final weekend.
- The Saints have struggled to hold onto the ball, turning the ball over 276 times this season (most in the Liberty League).
- They have shown signs of cleaner play as of late, giving it away less than ten times in wins over RIT and Union.
- Senior Kiera Taussig is a multi-talented force for the Saints. She leads the team in goals (26) and caused turnovers (27) and has been impressively consistent. She has scored at least two goals or caused at least two turnovers in every game, save two this season.
- Beyond Taussig, St. Lawrence has a very balanced offense. They sport six other attackers with at least ten goals on the season.
- In a time-share in goal, senior Wemyss Cricket and sophomore Olga Lukas have put up a combined .454 save percentage. Olga Likas has had a slightly better season in fewer opportunities, turning away 47 shots for a .47 save percentage.
- The Saints send out an experienced and poised team. They regularly start seven seniors and three juniors.
Next Up: Should the Brewers fight their way into the Liberty League playoffs this weekend, they will play for the championship on May 5-6.
