Vassar Women's Lacrosse Notes - RPI, Skidmore

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 18, 2017) — The Vassar College women's lacrosse team (6-5, 3-2 Liberty) heads back out on the road to take on Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY at 4 p.m. this Friday. Then, they will swing over to Troy, NY on Saturday to face-off against RPI at 2 p.m.

Last Time Out: In the Brewers last game, they played phenomenally against Bard College, winning 14-3. This was in large part due to the play of Lindsay Wolk, one goal and two assists, and Grace Goodwin-Boyd, two goals and one assist.

A Look at the Brewers (6-5, 3-2 LL):
  • Vassar comes into the weekend hot, riding a two-game win streak which came against Bard and RIT.
  • The Brewers will have a test his weekend in these two crucial away games, as the team has gone 1-2 this season on the road.
  • Vassar is currently fourth in the Liberty League standings, sitting behind William Smith, Rochester, and Skidmore, and tied with St. Lawrence.
  • The Brewers are a team that shares the ball and moves it around nicely, and as a result are second in the Liberty League in assists per game with 4.45.
  • Both Kelly Pushie (2.20) and Tessa Waters (2.18) are in the top ten in conference for goals per game.
  • Waters, Pushie, and Storm Sideleau lead the team in goals and points. Waters has 24 goals and 31 points, Pushie had 22 goals and 26 points, and Sideleau has 22 goals and 25 points.
  • Waters and Phoebe Hankins each have seven assists to top all Brewers.

A Look at the Thoroughbreds (8-5, 4-2 LL):
  • Skidmores comes into the weekend after a tough loss at William Smith the week prior. Before that, the Thoroughbreds had won two games in a row against St. Lawrence and Union.
  • Cas Szwajkowski leads the conference in goals per game, averaging 3.85 a contest.
  • Szwajkowski additionally tops the conference in points per game, with 4.31 per.
  • Skidmore is undefeated so far at home this year, winning all four of its home contests.
  • The squad sits in third in the Liberty League currently, above Vassar and below both Rochester and William Smith. The Thoroughbreds will have to win Friday in order to move up in the standings or maintain this third-place position.
  • Skidmore leads the conference in ground balls with 256.

  • Rachel Talanian has the most ground balls in the Liberty League by far, with 57 on the season.

Against Skidmore All-Time:
The Brewers are 6-20 against Skidmore all-time, and have fallen in the teams' last three meetings. The last Brewer victory was in a 7-6 match on March 28, 2014.

A Look at the Engineers (4-8, 2-4  LL):
  • The Engineers have fallen in their last two contests to Union College by a score of 14-9 and William Smith College by a score of 13-3.
  • RPI is 2-2 this season so far at home, with its last home victory coming on April 1st against RIT.
  • The Engineers currently sit in the penultimate position in conference, above Bard College and just below RIT, Union, and Clarkson.

Against RPI All-Time: Vassar is 4-22 all-time against RPI. The Engineers won the last meeting 10-8, but Vassar won the year prior on April 3, 2015 by a score of 11-8.  

Next Up: Vassar will return home for the final few games of the regular season. The Brewers take on conference foes Clarkson and St. Lawrence at 4 p.m. April 28 and 2 p.m. April 29, respectively.
