POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 11, 2017) – The Vassar Men's Tennis team returns to Liberty League action for the first time since February 18 when the Brewers were defeated by Skidmore College. Vassar currently sits tied in second place in the league with the Engineers of RPI in a match that holds heavy seeding implications for both teams.

Last Time Out: The Brewers bested the Beavers of Babson College on their home court by a score of 5-4. The singles play of Vassar was the decisive factor in this highly competitive contest as the Brewers went 4-2 following a 1-2 finish in doubles competition. With the total score tied 4-4, Freshman
Allen Sokolov picked up his 10
th victory of the year winning his match and the overall match in a tiebreaker at No. 2 singles.
A Look At The Brewers:
- With a 4-0 record, the Brewers have yet to be defeated on their home courts.
- Vassar's singles team has been the stronger unit of the squad with a .578 win percentage compared to a .431 from the doubles side
- Sokolov and Juan Felipe Laso were crucial in Vassar's victory over Babson as both players were a part of the teams only doubles win and also each picked up a singles victory.
- Senior No. 1 singles player Nick Litsky picked up his 100th career victory against No. 21 MIT last Friday.
- Vassar has had an edge in the top three singles spots all year as Litsky, Sokolov, and Felipe Laso have been essential components of the Brewers success.
- Alexander Luckmann had an excellent weekend in the No. 6 singles position winning both of his matches for the Brewers.
- Jamie Anderson had a competitive weekend as he followed up a three set loss to MIT with an impressive bounce-back victory at No. 4 singles against Babson
A Look At The Engineers:
- RPI has been dominant in recent weeks in Liberty League play beating St. Lawrence, Bard, and RIT all by scores of 9-0. The last time the Engineers dropped an individual match was March 25th against Skidmore.
- The Engineers have fared well on the road this season currently boasting a 2-0 record away from home.
- Tristan Wise and Zack Ebenfeld have been on fire lately. Each player currently holds a three game win streak.
- The top two singles players for RPI, Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez and Xavier Oshinowo both sit atop the Liberty League in terms of win percentage and will be tough matchups for Litsky and Sokolov.
- Castillo-Sanchez and Ebenfeld have had plenty of success in doubles action and have won a league-leading 16 doubles matches overall.
Up Next: Vassar will host St. Lawrence for Senior Day the following Sunday, April 23. This will be the second to last Liberty League match for the Brewers before the postseason begins.
