Vassar Women's Lacrosse Notes — FDU-Florham

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 22, 2017) — The Vassar College women's lacrosse team (3-2, 0-0 Liberty) continues its homestand, welcoming Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham to Weinberg Field on Friday, March 24 at 3:30 p.m.

Last Time Out: Tessa Waters capped a six-point performance with a free-position goal with 21 seconds remaining to lift Vassar over Connecticut College (0-4) at Weinberg Field on Wednesday, 13-12. The win marked the third straight for the Brewers, who beat the University of New England and Fitchburg State University during their Spring Break Tour in Florida. 

A Look at the Brewers (3-2):

  • Waters, who collected a team-leading six points in VC's most recent outing, was named Liberty League and ECAC Rookie of the Week for her performances last week against UNE and Fitchburg State. 
  • The Brewers have outshot opponents 152-133 overall and 120-102 in shots-on-goal. Of their 68 total goals, 24 have been assisted. 
  • VC has won 76 draw controls to opponents' 51, but has lost the ground ball battle 107-102 through five games.
  • Storm Sideleau (15g, 2a) and Waters (13g, 4a) lead the Brewers with 17 points apiece. Fiona MacLeod (7g, 4a) and Kelly Pushie (9g, 1a) have also been productive on offense, chalking up 11 and 10 points, respectively. 
  • Waters has been a threat across the board, also leading the team with 11 ground balls and 18 draw controls while adding four created turnovers as well. 
  • Defensively, Sara Mathes has been solid, leading the team with 11 created turnovers while also adding nine ground balls. 
  • Kristin Caolo (2-2) and Emily Chancey (1-0) have split time in the cage. Caolo has made 22 stops for a 42.3 save percentage, while Chancey has fended away 25 shots for a 50.0 percentage. 
  • The Brewers look to improve upon their 2016 campaign, in which they finished 6-9 overall and 2-7 in Liberty League play.
  • This season, the Brewers are captained by Brittany Botticelli and Julia Trudell.

A Look at the Devils (4-1):

  • The Devils are 4-1 on the season with a loss to The College of New Jersey and wins over Moravian College, St. Joseph's College-Li, Whittier College and most recently Drew University. 
  • Against Drew, Frances Maggio scored a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Devils to a 12-8 win, their third straight victory. FDU-Florham outscored Drew 6-3 in the first half before holding on for the victory. 
  • The Devils have yet to play at home, playing as far as Whittier, CA so far this season. 
  • FDU-Florham has outshot opponents 130-96 overall and 100-69 in shots-on-goal. Of the Devils' 61 goals, 25 have been assisted.
  • In special situations, the Devils have notched two woman-up goals and one woman-down goal so far this season. They've netted 16 free-position shots, while holding opponents to 10. 
  • FDU-Florham has grabbed 110 ground balls to opponents' 94, and has won 62 draw controls to opponents' 35. 
  • Joelle Manganella (13g, 3a) and Maggio (11g, 5a) lead the squad with 16 points apiece. Noelle Shirey (8g, 4a), Brienna Reasoner (9g, 2a) and Samantha Holleritter (7g, 3a) round out the offensive leaders with 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively. 
  • Reasoner has been productive across the board, pacing the pack with 13 created turnovers and 14 draw controls while also adding 10 ground balls. 
  • Megan Nemeth and Erin Gill have split time in net. Nemeth (4-1) has fended away 32 shots for a 58.2 save percentage, while Gill (0-0) has made six stops for a 42.9 save percentage. 
  • The Devils look to improve upon last season, in which they finished 14-7 overall and 6-0 in conference play. 
  • Last season, FDU-Florham beat King's College and Misericordia University for the MAC Freedom Tournament title before making it all the way to the second round in the NCAA Tournament. 

Against FDU-Florham All-Time: The Brewers and Devils have met twice before. FDU-Florham topped VC 12-6 in 2015 and most recently 12-11 in 2016. 

Next Up: Vassar kicks off conference play on Friday, March 31, welcoming Union College to Weinberg Field for a 4 p.m. tilt.
