Vassar Women Battle Against Conn College In Season Finale

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ (February 26, 2017) — The Vassar College women's squash team fought the entire way, but ultimately fell 6-3 to Connecticut College on Day 3 of the CSA Championships in Lawrenceville, NJ on Sunday.

With that, Vassar finishes the season with an 11-6 record. The last time the program had as many wins was in 2008-09 when the Brewers finished with an 11-8 mark. 

"It was a wonderful season," coach David Ames said. "The work ethic and attitude of all the players was amazing. I saw tremendous improvement across the board."

Hannah Nice, Isabelle Bertram and Alessandra Pilkington all chalked up wins on the final day of the Championships. At the top of the lineup, Nice took down Mawa Ballo in straight sets, 11-1, 11-7, 11-7; at the three, Bertram defeated Davy Lemay in three sets, 11-9, 11-8, 11-7; and at the six, Pilkington fought Jacqueline Chu all the way to a four-set victory, 11-6, 11-9, 6-11, 11-6. 

Nice finishes the season with a team-leading 15-1 mark, Bertram concludes with an 11-6 record and Pilkington finishes with a 13-4 mark, concluding her freshmen season with the second-most wins of anyone on the team. 

Two Brewers fought their opponents all the way to five sets, while another two battled to four, as the competition proved to be back-and-forth all day. 

Diana Howland (12-4) battled Elizabeth Varoli before falling in the fifth set at seven, 11-4, 9-11, 11-3, 4-11, 11-7, while Julia Pollak (4-3) fought Caroline Lippincott before losing in the final set at nine, 6-11, 6-11, 12-10, 11-6, 11-7. 

As for the four-set setbacks, Sydney Nemphos (12-5) lost to Margaret Davey at four, 11-8, 11-4, 2-11, 12-10, while Carly Scher (9-8) was beaten by Anne Holly at five, 11-5, 11-3, 9-11, 11-7. 

Jiamin Wu (6-11) competed in a nail-biter with Adrienne Sieverding at two, taking two of her sets to extras, 12-10, 11-8, 13-11. Emma Glickman (5-4) also caused problems for her opponent, posting 21 points in an 11-7, 11-8, 11-6 setback to Allie Fuller at eight.
