POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 18, 2017) – The Vassar College women's tennis team started its spring season Saturday afternoon in play from Walker Field House, knocking off Muhlenberg College 9-0 in non-conference home action.

Connie Yoo and junior
Dasha Ivenitsky cruised to an 8-0 win on Court No. 3.
The next two results would come minutes apart from each other, as senior
Shayna Becker and freshman
Tara Edwards dispatched of Muhlenberg's top pairing of Jamie Rosenblum and Hannah Molk, 8-1. Right after the final handshakes at No. 1, Vassar's No. 2 team of
Kate Christensen and
Morgane Flournoy also registered an 8-1 win over Brittany Gould and Meghan Olsen.
In singles action, Yoo was untroubled in her match at No. 6 singles, winning all 12 games contested to pick up her second victory of the day, 6-0, 6-0. The clinching point for the Brewers came at No. 3 singles, as Edwards topped Gould 6-0, 6-1 to lift VC to the win.
Moments after Edwards helped Vassar earn the win, Christensen would seal up her ninth win of the 2016-17 season with an easy 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. The junior No. 1 player for VC was efficient all match, using an overpowering forehand to chalk up a barrage of winners.
Becker chalked up her second triumph of the afternoon to put Vassar up 7-0, as she also captured all 12 games played to pick up a 6-0, 6-0 win. Becker moved to 7-3 on the season with the win.
The Brewers continued to roll at No. 4 singles, as Flournoy upped her record in dual matches to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Olsen of Muhlenberg. In the final match of the afternoon, Ivenitsky gave VC the clean sweep, cruising past Shelby Knafo 6-0, 6-0. For Ivenitsky, it was her sixth singles win of the year, moving to 2-0 in dual matches.
"
We had a really strong victory today, we brought it with our all, it was really solid and everyone did really well," said Becker.
"
I was really pleased with our focus…we were able to execute our shots, no matter what type of ball we received and I feel like we are things we've been working," said head coach
Kathy Campbell. If we can take that into every match, we're going to be way ahead of where we were last year."
Vassar will be right back on the courts on Sunday morning, traveling south to West Point, NY at 10 a.m. to take on Division I Army.
