Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Women's Tennis team posted a pair of sweeps on Sunday, downing New Paltz 7-0 and league rival Bard 6-0. Prior to the New Paltz match, Vassar honored
Ananya Krishnan (Chesterbrook, PA),
Iris Li (Palo Alto, CA) and
Erin McCusker (Norton, MA) on Senior Day.
With two wins on Sunday, Vassar has won six straight contests and improves to 9-5 overall and 5-0 in Liberty League play.
Vassar 7 – New Paltz 0
Doubles
- Vassar dominated the three doubles matches against the Hawks to open a 1-0 lead in the contest.
- Vassar's top pair of McCusker and Li won their fourth straight decision and improved to 6-6 on the season with a 6-2 victory.
- Krishnan and Maddie Kirby (Davidson, NC) won for the fifth time as a pairing and improved to 8-3 with a 6-2 victory at the second position.
- Gwendolyn Gray (Montauk, NY) and Sara Lippin (Chappaqua, NY) won for the third time in as many matches as a unit with a 6-3 third doubles win.
Singles
- McCusker outlasted New Paltz' Justine Stanejko at the top singles flight in a tough 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-4) triumph.
- At the second slot, Li also battled for the Brewers in a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 victory.
- Krishnan earned her team leading 11th win of the spring with an impressive 6-2, 6-0 win at the third slot.
- Kirby scored a win by retirement at the fourth position and was leading 6-3, 4-3 at the time the match was stopped.
- Liya Pomfret (Berkeley, CA) was victorious at fifth singles by scores of 7-5, 6-3.
- Gray scored a 6-4, 7-5 sixth singles win, earning her second career singles win.
Vassar 6 – Bard 0
Doubles
- Vassar won the only two doubles matches contested against the Raptors.
- Gray and Sieun Lee (Wake Forest, NC) won for the second time as a pair this spring in a 6-0 top flight win.
- At the second slot, Lippin and Esme Nix (Altadena, CA) played together for the first time this spring and earned a 6-0 victory.
Singles
- Kirby played at the first slot for the first time this season and cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
- Pomfret moved up to the second position against Bard and posted her second win of the day in a 6-0, 6-0 decision.
- Nix was elevated to the third position against the Raptors and posted a 6-0, 6-0 win.
- Lippin earned her first singles win of the season and cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 fifth singles victory.
- Gray scored her second win of the day at the fifth slot, blanking the opponent from Bard 6-0, 6-0.
