POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 4, 2017) – The Vassar College women's squash team opened its 2017-18 season Saturday afternoon, picking up a 9-0 win over Fordham before dropping an 8-1 decision to Mount Holyoke College in action from Kenyon Hall.

The women had no problems rolling past Fordham in the opening match of the day, as Vassar took all 27 sets contested in the match. Senior
Hannah Nice, who has played No. 1 for the entirety of her career, had no issues with Emily Couch with scores of 11-4, 11-1 and 11-2.
Sophomore
Sydney Nemphos also cruised at No. 2 with a score line of 11-3, 11-8 and 11-2, while
Jiamin Wu allowed just five points in an 11-1, 11-4, 11-0 victory over Kat Coleman of Fordham. Sophomore
Alessandra Pilkington earned a comfortable win at No. 4 with an 11-2, 11-1 and 11-2, with senior
Cherylann Mucciolo also capturing a victory with scores of 11-3, 11-6 and 11-2.
Sophomore
Samantha Henderson continued the run for Vassar at No. 6, winning 33 of the matches 36 points to earn a 11-1, 11-0 and 11-2 victory. Senior captain
Emma Glickman won in straight sets (11-3, 11-3, 11-0) at No. 7, while fellow senior
Kelly Rissman also chalked up an 11-1, 11-0 and 11-5 triumph.
At the No. 9 position,
Isa Pengskul knocked off Grace Davidson 11-0, 11-7 and 11-2, and in exhibition action Becca Slotkin defeated Diana Farrell 11-1, 11-1 and 11-5.
Mount Holyoke 8, Vassar 1
The evening match saw some tough matches go against the Brewers, as Seven Sisters foe Mount Holyoke was able to come away with the win. The Lyons earned the victory in the first five matches contested before Nice was able earn a four-set victory over Brandy Williamson at No. 1.
In the match, Nice earned a decisive 11-1 win before Williamson battled back to take a 11-5 victory in the second set. Nice would rebound though to control the third and fourth games, picking up 11-3 wins in both to earn the victory and move to 2-0 on the season. She has now won 15 matches in a row for the Brewers in dual matches.
The most exciting match against Mount Holyoke was at No. 8, as Kuzie Madungwe was able to take a five-set thriller over Rissman. In the match, Vassar's senior earned the first two sets 11-7 and 11-6, but Madungwe was able to rally with scores of 12-10, 11-6 and 11-8 for the victory.

Vassar will be back at it tomorrow against Boston University and Bucknell University at 1 p.m. in Kenyon Hall.
