POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 15, 2017) – The Vassar College men's swimming and diving team will return home for the first home meet since October 25, hosting the Hawks of New Paltz Friday evening in Kresge Pool at 6 p.m. The Brewers are coming off a tough loss at RPI last Saturday afternoon, and will look to rebound with a test against local rival New Paltz.

Last Time Out: Vassar traveled to take on one of the best programs in the region in RPI last weekend, falling to the Engineers 185-70. The Brewers got some strong performances though, especially from senior
Jonah Strand, who posted a strong 1:00.78 in the 100 breast for a victory. Newcomer
Parker Bartz posted a personal-best time of 24.11 in the 50 free, while
Finn Belanger also chalked up a personal-best in the 500 free with a time of 5:49.24. Bartz also posted a personal-best in the 100 free with a 53.89.
A Look At The Brewers (2-2):
- Vassar comes into the meet 2-2 on the season, having knocked off Bard College and Skidmore College, falling to RPI and Brandies College.
- Bartz posted the second-fastest 50 free time of the season for the Brewers against RPI, chalking up a 24.11.
- Sophomore Jordan Kalina missed the meet with RPI, but Finn Belanger picked up the slack by swimming a personal-best in the 500 free.
- Strand swam his season-best time in the 200 breast against RPI last Saturday, swimming the eight-length trek in 2:11.56.
- Vassar saw freshman Max White set the best time in the 400 IM this season against the Engineers, posting a 4:24.81.
- The diving team will look to improve on its season bests Friday, as Marvin Corleto comes in with a season-best 136.13, while senior Connor Martin will look to top a 180.45.
- Freshman Rowan McDowall, along with White, will look to shine in the backstroke for Vassar, as they are the leaders in both the 100 and 200 backstroke events for VC.
- White has posted a 2:05.14 in the 200 backstroke, as he looks to break a school record eventually in the event, held by Chris Cerutti and his 1:58.45.
- Vassar last knocked off New Paltz back on November 23, 2013 at home, as the Brewers got strong swims that day from Patrick Lai, Luc Amodio and Anthony Walker.
A Look At The Hawks (1-1):
- The Hawks are coming off a 79-51 victory over Purchase College on November 10, as New Paltz had some very strong performances that night.
- Sophomore Cooper Knapp broke the Elting Pool and school record in the 200 IM, swimming a 1:52:96.
- Nolan West won the 100 freestyle for the Hawks with a time of 52.12, while Joseph Galante placed first in the men's 500 freestyle (5:15.90).
- Chad Plante also set a personal-best in the 100 breast for the Hawks with a 1:01.39, while teammate Konstantin Lomeyko also posted his best time in the event with a 1:04.90.
- Rory Neal posted a season-best time in the meet with Purchase in the 200 free of 1:56.12, setting a personal-best swim in the 100 back with a 1:01.72.
- Colin Duell established new personal bests in the 100 fly and 100 breast events against the Panthers, swimming times of 57.08 and 1:03.03, respectively.
- Tom Barnitkowski is one to look out for in the sprint free events, posting a lightning-quick 21.94 earlier this season.
- Marc Piliero is New Paltz's top backstroke option, while Lomeyko is the Hawk's best butterfly swimmer so far this season.
