Vassar Men's Swimming & Diving Meet Notes - RPI

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 11, 2017) The Brewers will trek up to Troy, NY to face-off with the Engineers of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the fourth meet of this young season.

Last Time Out: The Brewers were able to outpace the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore last Saturday. In total, the Brewers amassed 153 points to Skidmore's 135, and will look to ride this wave of momentum into their battle in Troy.

A Look at the Brewers (2-1):
  • The Brewers have been paced in the 50 free by Matthew Imiolek, a sophomore from St. Louis, Missouri. His best time this season is 22.43. Imiolek is also the Brewers second speediest 100-free swimmer (51.18).
  • Imiolek trails only Max White in the 100 free – who comes in at a water-bending time of 49.37. White also paces the Brewers in the 200 free – with a time of 1:48.72.
  • White's also leads the team with a 24.90 season-best in the 50 back, a 54.57 in the 100 back, and a 2:05.14 in the 200 back.
  • Jordan Kalina – the pride of Palatine, Illionois – has been a force for the Brewers through their first four meets. He leads the Brewers in the 500 and the 1000 free.
  • One of Vassar's best swimmers ever, Jonah Strand, leads the team in the 100 breast and the 200 breast. He is Vassar's record holder in both events.
  • Strand also leads the team in the 200 IM, with a stellar time of 2:02.10.
  • Vassar has been strong in the 200 relay (1:41.66) and the 400 relay (3:24.46).
  • Vassar's season-best time in the 200 medley relay is 1:38.94.
  • Marvin Corleto's best score in the 1M dive is 136.13, while senior Connor Martin has posted a stellar 180.45 this season.
 
A Look at the Engineers (2-1):
  • RPI is coming off a tough loss to Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a final score of 129-171.
  • The Engineers have four swimmers finishing the 50 free in under 23 seconds, led by John Alberta, whose best time this year is 22.23.
  • Good lord! Spencer Marquardt posts a NCAA B-cut time of 43.84 in the 100 free, and thus, if the season ended today, he would qualify for nationals.
  • Alexander Chused is one of three Engineer divers to post a score over 200. He leads the way with an astonishing 257.95.
  • This is the first of two meets for the Engineers this weekend – on Sunday they take on Hartwick College.
