Last Time Out: Vassar dropped the first two sets against New Paltz on Wednesday evening, eventually falling to the Hawks in four sets. Junior
Devan Gallagher finished with 19 kills to lead the way, while Jenny Kerbs and
Colette Cambey each had six finishes.
A Look At The Brewers (20-6):
- Vassar comes into the weekend looking to snap its longest losing stretch of the season. If VC earns wins in both matches this weekend, its 22 victories will be the most since the 2009 season.
- Devan Gallagher currently has 430 kills on the season, which is 41 short of the single-season record of 471 terminations, held by Mackenzie Johnson in 2003.
- Junior setter Annie MacMillan is closing in on a 1000 assists for the season, as she has 968 coming into the weekend. MacMillan would rack up her second consecutive season with 1000 in a year.
- Vassar is still leading the conference in attacking percentage, hitting .220 for the season.
- The Brewers have paced the Liberty League in service aces per set, posting 2.58 per game this year. Annie MacMillan is second in the conference in aces per set with 0.62.
- Gallagher is 11th in the nation in kills this season, and is fifth in kills per set nationally.
- Vassar has gone 11-1 at home in 2017, looking to match its home record from last year at 13-1.
A Look at the Cardinals (6-19):
- Plattsburgh State comes to town this weekend looking to stop an eight-match losing streak, having last won on September 30 against Cazenovia in three sets.
- The Cardinals have had success at the service line this season, ranking third in the SUNYAC in aces per set with 2.00.
- Plattsburgh will look for its offense to get going, posting the 10th most kills in the SUNYAC this season while hitting .118 for the season.
- Hunter Grotjohn leads the team with 219 kills this year, hitting .142 on her attempts.
- Michelle Simmons is right behind her with 2.10 kills per set, totaling 192 terminations for the season.
- Brianna Coon and Allyssa Rock have shared setting duties, combining for 680 assists this season.
- Libero Bryanne Yasui has a team-best 369 digs, averaging 4.10 per set, while also posting 35 service aces to lead the team.
A Look at the Bloodhounds (14-10):
- John Jay is riding high coming into the weekend, having won its last six matches, including a 3-0 win over York College Tuesday evening. John Jay is 6-2 in the CUNYAC.
- The Bloodhounds are second in the conference in hitting percentage, posting a .166 for the season.
- The net defense has been strong for John Jay, chalking up 1.06 blocks per set which ranks second in the CUNYAC.
- Brittany Steele leads the conference in kills per set with 3.70, hitting .231 for the season.
- Teammate Nyla Lloyd-Clarke is second in the CUNYAC in hitting percentage with a .281 mark.
- Setter Kimberly Rodriguez leads the conference in assists per set with 8.70.
- Brianna Geraldo paces the Bloodhounds in digs with 244 on the season.
Against Plattsburgh, John Jay All-Time: Vassar is 3-0 against John Jay all-time, winning all nine sets played dating back to their first meeting in 2006. Vassar and Plattsburgh have met just once before, with VC earning a 3-0 win at Hartwick back in 2002.
Up Next: Vassar will serve as the No. 3 seed in the Liberty League Tournament, taking on Clarkson University in the semifinals at Ithaca College. The host Bombers and Skidmore College will play in the other semifinal Friday, November 3, with the winners playing at 4 p.m. in the Liberty League finals Saturday.
