POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 28, 2017) — The Vassar College women's squash team (9-2) swept its Senior Day opponents, beating Boston University 9-0 and Bucknell University 8-1 at the Hudson Valley Team Tournament in Kenyon Hall on Saturday.
At the top of the lineup, Hannah Nice (9-1) topped Jasmine Rishi (BU), 11-0, 11-0, 11-2, and Sophia Hartman (Bucknell), 11-2, 11-4, 11-4, to extend her winning streak to seven. At the two, Jiamin Wu (5-6) beat Anisha Nawairai (BU) in straight sets before falling in five, hard-fought sets to Anna Hart (Bucknell), 12-16, 11-5, 11-8, 5-11, 11-9.
Look at the three, Isabelle Bertram (8-3) topped Anisha Nawairai (BU), 11-5, 11-2, 11-3, and Liesel Ferguson (Bucknell), 11-6, 11-6, 11-3, to get back in the win column. Sydney Nemhos (9-2) was also perfect on the day, beating Jackie Soscia (BU), 11-1, 11-1, 11-3, and Caroline Fakharzadeh (Bucknell), 11-2, 11-6, 11-4, to capture her team-leading eighth straight win.
Carly Scher (8-3) battled at the five, beating Normandie Essig (BU) in four sets, 11-5, 9-11, 11-6, 11-0, before topping Molly Horning in straight sets, 11-8, 11-6, 11-7, for her third consecutive victory.
Alessandra Pilkington (10-1), Diana Howland (9-1), Emma Glickman (3-0) and Julia Pollak (2-0) also swept their opponents of the day at the six through nine, respectively. Pilkington has won a team-leading eight straight, while Howland has secured seven in a row.
The Brewers will wave goodbye to three seniors in Bertram, Howland and Scher, but not before competing in the Seven Sisters Championships on Saturday, Feb. 11 and the CSA Championships on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 24-26.
