POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 21, 2017) — The Vassar College women's squash team (7-2) defeated host Haverford College (1-7) at the GIAC Squash Courts on Saturday, 8-1.
Looking at the top of the lineup, Hannah Nice (7-1) picked up her fifth straight win, defeating Isabelle Gotuaco, 11-5, 11-7, 11-5. At the two, Isabelle Bertram (6-3) fell in three tough sets, 11-5, 11-6, 11-3, against Kaitlin Reese.
The Brewers remained steady down the rest of the lineup. In perhaps the day's most hard-fought match, Sydney Nemphos (7-2) took down Isabel Agnew in four sets, 11-5, 11-5, 7-11, 11-4. The freshman now owns the longest winning streak on the team with six straight.
Moving onto the middle of the lineup, Jiamin Wu (4-5) defeated Olivia Franco at the four, 11-4, 11-4, 11-2; Carly Scher (6-3) battled for an 11-7, 11-6, 8-11, 11-9 win over Mason McNulty at the five; and Cherylann Mucciolo (7-2) took down Emilia Cobbs at the six, 11-4, 11-6, 14-12.
Alessandra Pilkington (8-1), Diana Howland (7-1) and Emma Glickman (1-0) also defeated their opponents in straight sets to round out the day. Pilkington and Howland both notched their fifth straight win, while Glickman triumphed in her season debut.
The Brewers return to Poughkeepsie, NY for the Hudson Valley Team Tournament, a two-day event on Saturday, Jan. 28 and Sunday, Jan. 29. Action from Kenyon Hall begins at 10 a.m. on both days.
