POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 18, 2017) — The Vassar College women's squash team (6-2) travels to Haverford, PA to take on Haverford College (1-6) on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. and Johns Hopkins University (0-3) later that day at 5 p.m.
Last Time Out: The Brewers have taken a break since last competing on Dec. 4. Vassar went 1-1 that day, shutting out Bard College 9-0 before falling to Tufts University 5-4. Two Brewers went 2-0, as freshmen
Sydney Nemphos and
Alessandra Pilkington were perfect on the day.
A Look At The Brewers (6-2):
- The Brewers finished the fall semester with a 6-2 mark. They beat Fordham University and Mount Holyoke College to open the season before falling to William Smith College. They then strung together four straight wins, beating Colgate University, Connecticut College, Haverford and Bard, before most recently falling to Tufts.
- The last time Vassar played Haverford, the Brewers walked away with an 8-1 win at home.
- Vassar has posted three shutouts so far this season: against Fordham, Colgate and most recently Bard. The Brewers have been held scoreless just once (against William Smith), as their most recently setback came by a 5-4 decision.
- Pilkington leads the Brewers with a 7-1 mark at the seven slot, having won her past five matches.
- Five Brewers has registered six wins on the season: Hannah Nice (6-1) at the one, Isabelle Bertram (6-2) primarily at the three, Cherylann Mucciolo (6-2) primarily at the six and Diana Howland (6-1) primarily at the eight.
- The Brewers look to build off their 2015-16 campaign, in which they finished 7-9 overall.
- This year, Vassar boasts three captains in Bertram, Nice and Carly Scher.
A Look At The Fords (1-6):
- Since their 9-0 season-opening win over Johns Hopkins, the Fords have dropped five straight in matches against Conn. College, Vassar, Tufts, Wesleyan, Northeastern and most recently Wellesley.
- Three of Haverford's losses have been shutouts (against Tufts, Wesleyan and Northeastern).
- Kaitlin Reese defeated Eva Mullarkey of Wellesley at the two, 8-11, 13-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8, for Haverford's lone win on Tuesday.
- Three Fords have registered three wins to lead the team: Haley Connor (4-2) primarily at the four, Eunble Coe (4-1) primarily at the seven, and Lumi Kinjo (4-2) primarily at the nine.
- Sarah Zhang has been solid at the top of the lineup, owning a 3-1 record.
- The Fords look to build off their 2015-16 record, wherein they finished 6-14 overall.
- This year, Haverford boasts two captains in Isabel Agnew and Isabelle Gotuaco.
A Look At The Blue Jays (0-3):
- Johns Hopkins is 0-3 on the season with losses to University of Virginia, Haverford College and George Washington University. All have been shutouts.
- Looking at the lineup, Carley Petrone, Meenakshi Chatrathi and Courtney L. Colwell round out the top three.
- Looking at the middle of the lineup, Austin Davis, Dayna Gillette and Nora Jandhyala take spots four through six.
- Rounding out the starting lineup, Audrey Collins, Ria Oba and Emma Paine take spots seven through nine.
- Johns Hopkins has yet to play at home.
Next Up: The Brewer women will compete in the Hudson Valley Team Tournament, a two-day event, from Saturday, Jan. 28 to Sunday, Jan. 29. Action from Kenyon Hall begins at 8 a.m. on the first day and 9 a.m. the next.
