POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 6, 2016) – The Vassar College men's track and field team hosted its annual home meet, the Matthew Vassar Twilight, on Weinberg Track and Field Friday evening. Many Vassar men set personal records in an abundance of events on a rainy evening in Poughkeepsie.
The Brewers started the day with a strong output from senior
Kyle Dannenberg, as he set a personal best and a season-low time for a Vassar runner in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a 10:28.66 for third place. In the 100 meter dash, sophomore
Michael Walsh set personal bests in the 100 meter dash with a 12.41 and a 12.22m mark in the triple jump, taking second.
The 400 meter dash was a strong event for the Brewers, as VC took the top four positions led by the 50.45 from senior
Taylor Vann, a personal-best. Junior
Elijah Winston was second in the event with a PR of 50.58, while sophomore
Kyle Estrada chalked up a third-place finish with a 50.60.
Dylan Manning was fourth with a 50.94, and Max Hendersen (56.53) and
Ilya Rozenblat (56.68) were ninth and 10
th, respectively.
Later in the 1500 meter run, junior
Gabe Fishman broke four minutes for the first time Friday, besting his previous personal best by over six seconds with a 3:59.73 for third place. The time was the best time of the season for the Brewers, while
Michael Scarlett was fifth with a time of 4:01.10, a personal best. Sophomore
Jared Freedman was sixth with a 4:02.70 and
Luke Arsenault registered a personal record time of 4:06.71.
In the 5000 meter run, one of the races of the entire event, sophomore
Philip Brown ran a strong race in a very competitive field. Brown chalked up a fourth-place finish with a time of 15:18.30, just missing his personal best time of 15:16.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the Vassar relay squad of Estrada, Winston, Fishman and Vann was second with a time of 3:28.74. In the final event of the night, sophomore
Jesse Schatz earned the win in the 10000 meter run with a 33:07.93, a personal-best time.
Vann was strong in the field events on Friday, as he posted a school record of 3.70 meters for second place in the pole vault. He wasn't done there as he blasted his previous personal best in the long jump, registering a leap of 6.50 meter to win the event.
Vassar will travel to Pittsford, NY to St. John Fisher College on May 14 for the Cardinal Last Chance Meet at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex.
