NEW HAVEN,CT(May 1, 2016)—Junior
Elijah Winston continued to stand out in this is first season with the Vassar College men's track squad, as a small group of Vassar College runners competed in the Yale Springtime Invitational Sunday afternoon.
Winston, who was competing in the 400 meter run Sunday afternoon, finished sixth among a mostly Division I field as he ran a 52.15 to post the best time of any Division III runner in the event. Senior
Taylor Vann was also solid in his two races Sunday, placing second in the men's 110 hurdles with a time of 15.88. He later came back to run a 23.11 in the 200 meter dash to take 11
th place.
Also in the 200 meter dash, a trio of Vassar runners in Max Hendersen,
Michael Walsh and
Ilya Rozenblat battled hard in one of the more competitive event of the day. Hendersen ran a 25.66, while Walsh was right behind with a time of 25.76 and Rozenblat clocked in with a 26.31.
Kyle Dannenberg set a personal best in the 1500 meter run on Sunday with a time of 4:38.44, and freshman
Sam Kobrin also posted a personal record of 4:23.91 in the 1500 meters. Walsh was strong in the triple jump, taking seventh place with his second-best mark ever of 11.61 meters.
"The conditions were not ideal for running due to rain and cold, but still it was a productive meet," said interim coordinator of cross country and track at Vassar
James McCowan. "We ran a small crew between leagues and Twilight Meet, so we wanted everyone ready for our home meet and the final big events."
Also, Saturday afternoon the Brewers competed in the 4x800 relay at the prestigious Penn Relays, as
Jared Freedman,
Ry Blume,
Luke Arsenault and
Gabe Fishman combined to run an 8:02.55.
Vassar will look forward to its lone home meet of the season Friday night, hosting the Matthew Vassar Twilight Meet on Weinberg Field.
