CAMBRIDGE, MASS (April 8, 2016) —
Daniel Cooper dominated at No. 1 singles, as the Vassar College men's tennis team fell at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 8-1, on Friday.
Cooper's victory was captured in three sets over Kevin Wang, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. The senior captain now leads the Brewers with a 13-5 singles record, having won his past two matches.
All other Brewers put up at least a point in the contest.
The day started with doubles. At one, Wang and Tyler Barr took down Cooper and
Nick Zuczek, 8-3, while Alex Cauneac and Bryan Lilley edged
Juan Felipe Laso and
Alexander Luckmann, 8-5, at two. Finally at three, Sean Ko and Avi Walden defeated
Evan Udine and Gray Thurston, 8-3.
Then in singles, Ko beat Udine at two, 6-0, 6-1, Dennis Garcia defeated Laso at three, 6-1, 6-4, and Kenny Gea took down
Nick Lee at four, 6-2, 6-2. Jeffrey Bu edged
Jamie Anderson at five, 6-3, 6-2, and Henry La Soya topped
Sha Huang at six, 6-1, 6-2.
With the loss, the Brewers fall to 6-10 on the season, while the Engineers improve to 5-3 overall.
The Vassar men's tennis team continues its Massachusetts road trip with a double-header on Saturday, April 9. The Brewers play at Brandeis University at 10 a.m. before competing at Emerson College at 4 p.m.
