MAHWAH, NJ (April 2, 2016) — The Vassar College men's track team performed well in the seventh annual Ramapo College Invitational on Saturday, despite unexpected delays.
"I'm proud of the team for executing their race plans despite all the delays," coordinator
James McCowan said. "That mental acuity and flexibility is important, and demonstrating it now bodes well for dealing with the unexpected come championship time."
In the triple jump finals,
Morrie Lam finished ninth with a 13.03 jump. Lam was also a part of the squad that finished fourth in the 4X100 meter relay with a 43.37 time. The others on that team were
Kyle Estrada,
Peter Winkeller and
Dylan Manning.
Manning also finished 15th in the 200-meter dash finals with a 23.37 time and 32nd in the 100- meter dash preliminaries with an 11.84 time. Winkeller ran 23.64 in the 200-meter dash finals for 21st. In the 200-meter dash, Estrada finished 30th with a 23.80 time. Estrada also ran the 100-meter dash preliminaries in 11.91 for 35th.
In the 4X100 meter relay finals, the foursome of
Max Henderson,
Louis Scaglione,
Michael Walsh and
Taylor Vann finished 14th with a 46.77 time.
Vann also placed ninth in the high jump with 1.85 meters to tie his school record and placed 37th in the 200-meter dash finals.
In the 1500-meter run
Jesse Schatz ran 4:24.73 for 25th, and in the 800-meter finals, he ran 2:07.79 to finish 30th and win his heat.
In the 400-meter dash finals,
Elijah Winston clocked in at 54.62 for 38th.
The men's 4X800 also put forth an admirable effort with a crew of
Ry Blume,
Luke Arsenault,
Michael Scarlett and
Jared Freedman. The foursome finished in 8:01.51 for second place.
"We ran a limited squad as we had several runners training through or recuperating this weekend," McCowan said. "We look forward to putting more people in events next weekend with Princeton and Stockton."
The Vassar men's track team next competes at Princeton University in Princeton, NJ on Friday, April 8 at 5 p.m. before competing at the Stockton Osprey Open in Pomona, NJ on Saturday, April 9 at 10 a.m.
