POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 13, 2016) - The Vassar College women's lacrosse squad (5-4, 1-2 Liberty) is gearing up for a tough weekend of Liberty League action. The Brewers will travel to Canton, NY on Friday to face St. Lawrence University before lacing up the next day to meet Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY on Saturday.

Last Time OutThe Brewers last took the field against Skidmore College at home Saturday, April 9 in another Liberty League game. Vassar took a tough loss, finishing with a score of 11-5. The Brewers fell to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in Liberty League play. Four Brewers found the back of the net:
Storm Sideleau scored two goals to lead Vassar, while
Fiona MacLeod,
Isabelle Goldstein and
Julia Trudell each tallied one. Free-position shots were the difference in the game, as the Thoroughbreds outscored the Brewers, 9-2, in those situations.
A Look at the St. Lawrence Saints (6-6, 2-2 Liberty League)The Saints have struggled of late, having lost 7-4 to Union College before most recently falling to 12-5 to William Smith College. Against the Herons on April 9, five different Saints scored. Kiera Tuassig, Kara Hurley, Julia Mitiguy, Hayden Stein and Kayla Schmalz all tallied a goal in the contest. St. Lawrence trailed just one, 4-3, at the half, but Williams Smith scored four straight to start the second on the way to victory. Olga Lukas took the loss with five saves in 52 minutes, as the Herons outshot the Saints, 27-21.
Prior to their recent slip, the Saints enjoyed some success with wins over SUNY Potsdam, University of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology. They look to get back above .500 with two home games over the weekend. St. Lawrence has faired better at home with a 3-1 record in Canton compared to its 0-4 record on the road. Taussig leads the Saints with 23 goals, 29 ground balls, 24 forced turnovers, while Stein leads with 18 assists. Julia Mitiguy has picked up a team-best 21 draw controls.
Against St. Lawrence All-TimeVassar is 6-11 versus St. Lawrence all-time, dating back to their first meeting in 1999. The Brewers have won the past three games against the Saints, most recently beating them 11-5 on April 24, 2014. Returner
Isabelle Goldstein had one of her career-best performances that game, as she broke the season- and career- assist records. She posted three assists and three goals against the Saints, for game-high numbers as well.
A Look at the Clarkson Golden Knights (9-2 overall, 3-1 Liberty League)The Golden Knights have enjoyed a stellar start to the spring season. Their lone losses came March 5 against SUNY Cortland and April 9 against Union, which ended their nine-game winning streak. The loss to the Dutchwomen was decided in overtime, as the Golden Knights were ultimately edged 8-7. Christine Wright paced Clarkson with four goals, while Ashley Flick, Taylor Collins and Emma Jeffrey each added one. The Golden Knights potted the first three goals before the Dutchwomen matched them. Clarkson scored another three, but Union rallied to net five of the last six goals to notch the victory.
The Golden Knights have had a strong defensive line so far this season, led by their rookie goalkeeper, Samantha Gladd who was named Liberty League Rookie of the Week for the second time April 11. She currently leads the league with a 52.1 save percentage and a 5.93 goals -against average. The Golden Knights' offense has been on point as well. Wright has been a huge asset to Clarkson, having recently broken the program all-time leading scoring record last week. The senior leads with 31 goals, 34 assists and 13 created turnovers on the season, while Collins leads with 20 ground balls and 27 draw controls.
Against Clarkson All-TimeVassar is 12-4 against Clarkson all-time, dating back to their first meeting in 1997. The Brewers have won their past two games, most recently beating the Golden Knights 14-18 on April 25, 2015. That win rocketed the Brewers into the third overall seed in the Liberty League Championships last year to mark their best-ever regular season conference finish in program history.
Liberty League StandingsThe Brewers sit at seventh in the Liberty League standings with a 5-4 overall and 1-2 conference mark. They're ahead of Rochester Institute of Technology (4-6, 1-2), Bard College (4-6, 0-3) and University of Rochester (3-7, 0-3). Ahead of Vassar in the standings are the following: Union College (7-2, 4-0), Clarkson University (9-2, 3-1), William Smith College (4-7, 3-1), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (6-4, 2-2), St. Lawrence University (6-6, 2-2) and Skidmore College (5-6, 2-2).
Storm A-Brewin'Storm Sideleau has been a powerhouse for the Brewers, and this season is no exception. Last week, she registered five goals in Vassar's back-to-back, totaling three against RPI and two against Skidmore. The sophomore also totaled three ground balls and forced a turnover in the contests. Sideleau currently leads the Brewers with 25 goals on the season.
Golden GoldsteinGoldstein has been strong all over the field for Vassar. Last week, the senior totaled six points, four draw controls and two forced turnovers. She also picked up a pair of ground balls to boot. With four helps this week, Goldstein currently leads the Brewers with 20 assists, 17 ground balls and 15 created turnovers on the season.
Oh My, Offense!Vassar leads the Liberty League in goals (12.67), assists (6.78) and therefore points (19.44) per game. The Brewers have also been capitalizing when given game advantages, scoring .56 woman-up goals per game, good for third best in the conference.
Helping HandsVassar Is the only school with three players in the Liberty League Top 10 for assists.
Isabelle Goldstein in third with 2.22 per game,
Phoebe Hankins is seventh with 1.22 and
Julia Trudell is eighth with 1.11.
Break AwayThe women are currently on a two-game losing streak, having fallen to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Skidmore College last weekend. The Brewers are hoping to regain the momentum they had going into that weekend, when they had been on a three game tear, posting wins against Bard College, Western Connecticut State and Mount Saint Mary College.
Rookie RecognitionFreshman attack
Emily Hamburger was named Rookie of the Week by the Liberty League in the first week of April. She earned the accolade after scoring two goals against Western Connecticut and a career-best four goals against Bard College the next day in her first start.
Leader BoardThe Brewers offense has been strong this season.
Storm Sideleau is currently sitting in the No. 1 spot for Vassar with 25 goals on the season.
