GALLOWAY, NJ (April 10, 2016) -- The Brewer men's track team traveld to the Stockton University Osprey Open 2016 Saturday afternoon, having a strong showing before snow and hard rains forced the cancellation of the final few events.
The Brewers saw a very good day across the board as Vassar sent a larger contingent to Stockton than it did on Friday at Princeton University. In the 100 meter dash, senior
Peter Winkeller won his heat with a time of 11.64, which was just shy of his personal best as he placed fifth overall. Newcomer and junior
Elijah Winston was right behind Winkeller with an 11.73 for sixth place overall, as he also won his heat.
Senior
Dylan Manning continued to have a strong start to the campaign, as he won his heat with a 51.46, chalking up second-place honors in the process. Sophomore
Kyle Estrada also competed in the 400 meters, running a 53.09 for ninth-place in the event.
In the 1500 meter run, freshman
Ry Blume took home fifth place overall with a time of 4:22.44, as the cold temperatures and wind certainly played a factor.
Brian Haufler was 13th after booking a 4:39.59, and senior
Kyle Dannenberg booked a 4:52.63 for 21st place in the event.
Senior
Taylor Vann, who is getting ready to compete in his first decathlon of the 2016 season next week at the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College, worked on his 110 meter hurdles Saturday as he finished seventh with a 17.17. Also in his preparation for the decathlon, Vann took his at the shotput and chalked up a personal best in the event with a school record toss of 11.06 meters. The distance of 11.06 surpassed the 10.94 set back in 2012 by Philip McDermott.
The Brewers will compete in the two-day Silfen Invitational next Friday and Saturday in action from New London, CT.
