Vassar Women's Lacrosse Notes — Spring Break

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 9, 2016) — The Brewers of the Vassar College women's lacrosse team (1-0, 0-0 Liberty League) will pack their bags for spring break and travel to Bradenton, FL, where they will compete against Keene State on March 15 at 12:30 p.m. and Bowdoin College on March 17 at 9:30 a.m.

Last Time Out
The Brewers opened their season with a decisive 15-5 win over visiting New Paltz on March 5. Julia Trudell led the team with four goals, Kim Mulvehill and Amelia Rivoir each had three, and Storm Sideleau added two. Emily Chancey and Kristin Caolo split time in net, with Chancey earning the win. In the first half, Chancey allowed two goals with two saves before Caolo surrendered three goals with two saves in the second half.

A Look at the Owls (1-2, 0-0 LEC)
The Owls already have three games under their belts, most recently beating Colby-Sawyer College 15-5 triumph on Tuesday. Prior to that, they narrowly fell to Emerson College 17-13 on March 2 and to Massachusetts Institute of Technology 14-12 on March 5. In their most recent outing, Kaitlin Nolan and Jenna Bellano each notched three goals to lead Keene. The Owls scored the first eight goals of the game on their way to outshooting the Chargers 37-9. Keene won 16 draw controls, led by Samantha Ballard who took 10. On the season, Nolan leads the Owls with 11 goals, Taylor Graf leads with 10 assists, and Taylor Farland leads with 11 ground balls.

Keene, the defending conference champion, was selected as the favorite in the 2016 Little East Conference Women's Lacrosse Preseason Poll, as voted upon by the league's seven head coaches. The Owls received four first-place votes for a total of 44 points and are led by coach Katie Arsenault. She returns 16 players, including 10 starters, and only lost two starters from last year's squad.

Last Meeting
The Brewers and Owls most recently met during last year's spring break trip, in which they beat Keene 16-10 on March 15, 2015. Eight different Brewers recorded a goal, as Goldstein led the team with eight points.

A Look at the Polar Bears (1-1, 0-0 NESCAC)
So far this season, Bowdoin has lost to Amherst College 11-6 on the road March 5 and has won 15-3 to the University of New England at home Tuesday. In the Polar Bears' most recent outing, they scored the first dozen goals of the game. Lindsay Picard finished with four goals and an assist to lead all scorers, while Megan O'Connor recorded three goals and an assist. Hannah Hirschfield and Sophia Lubrano had two goals each. Bowdoin will travel to play at Williams College on March 12 before flying to Florida, where it will face Hamilton College on March 15.

The Polar Bears were ranked 10th in the Division III Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association Preseason Poll. The Polar Bears, who finished 2015 with a 16-4 record, advanced to the NESCAC Final and reached the Third Round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament. Bowdoin is one of seven NESCAC teams to rank in the top-20, behind only Trinity College (2) and Middlebury College (4).

Last Meeting
The Brewers and Polar Bears have not met in at least 10 years.

Liberty League Standings
Vassar is tied for first in the Liberty League with a 1-0 record. Only Rochester Institute of Technology and Union College can say the same. In total, six of the 10 teams have notched a win. Only Bard College (0-1), Clarkson University (0-1), University of Rochester (0-2) and William Smith (0-2) have yet to earn a win.

Road Warriors
The Brewers will play 10 games on the road this season, beginning with two in Bradenton, FL. In 2015, Vassar finished with a winning 3-2 record for road games and a 2-2 record for games held at neutral sites. The Brewers play just four more games this season on their home turf. 

Honor Rollin'
Julia Trudell chalked up a team-best five points in Vassar's 15-5 season-opening win over New Paltz on Saturday. The attack netted four goals to go along with an assist, three ground balls and one forced turnover. With that, the junior matched her career-high in points and goals.

Hat Trickery
Kim Mulvehill scored a hat trick in Vassar's 15-5 win over New Paltz on March 5. The feat marks the senior's seventh-career three-goal game.

On the Money
One game into the season, Julia Trudell has taken four shots, and all four of them have found the back of the net.

Defensive Darby
Darby Stahl leads Vassar's defensive effort, picking up a team-high four ground balls and forcing a team-best four turnovers.

Up Next
Following the Brewers' spring break trip to Bradenton, FL, they'll stay on the road for four more games. Vassar first heads to Madison, NJ to face Fairleigh Dickinson University on the Florham Campus on March 23 at 4 p.m.
