Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

DeStasio Nets Three In Brewer Loss

MONTCLAIR, NJ (March 2, 2016) - Junior captain Brandon DeStasio scored a team-high three goals, as the Vassar College men's lacrosse team fell 11-7 on the road to Montclair State University on Wednesday.

DeStasio netted the Brewers' first two goals, one to tie the game at 1-all and another to even it at two in the first quarter. But the Red Hawks scored three goals in three minutes to take a 5-2 edge into the second stanza.

The Brewers got within two goals, 8-6, once in the third quarter on a Dekker Stebel goal, but that would be the closest they would come to upending the Red Hawks.

With the loss, the Brewers drop to 1-1 on the season, while the Red Hawks improve to 1-2.

Chris Billups totaled two goals, while Stebel and Noah Parson added one apiece. Brandon Crecco recorded nine saves, and MSU goalie Lucas Jones saved 10.

Blase Mantineo and Steven Danyluk led the Red Hawks with six goals apiece, Ryan Totin had five and Ryan Young finished with three.

Mantineo won 14 of 19 face-offs for MSU, which helped the team take control of the game with additional possessions.

The Red Hawks shared the wealth in the first quarter, with five goals scored by five players. Connor Cunningham put MSU on the board, Don Finn made it 2-1 thanks to Brett Mangan's assist, Alex Hahn broke a 2-all tie, Zach Schreck netted a man-up goal with a helper from Cunningham and Brady Wulster put the Red Hawks up 5-2 with 2:43 to go in the period.

Wulster picked up where he left off in the second, scoring at the 10:18 mark after a pass from Cunningham.

The Brewers began to make a comeback with two goals in two minutes, but the Red Hawks came out of the break with energy. Totin extended the MSU lead to three, 7-4, scoring within the first minute of the third quarter.

The Red Hawks continued to roll from there, punctuating the night with a goal by Hahn in the final two minutes of the game.

The Vassar men's lacrosse team heads home to host Swarthmore College at Weinberg Field on Saturday, March 5 at 3 p.m. in non-conference play.
