CLAREMONT, CA (March 19, 2016) – The Vassar College men's tennis team dominated doubles, but ultimately fell 7-2 to Tufts University in Claremont, CA on Saturday.
With the loss, the Brewers fall to 5-9, while the Jumbos got their first win of the season.
Tufts picked up the first win of the day, an 8-2 victory over
Daniel Cooper and
Nick Zuczek at No. 1 doubles. But Vassar finished doubles strong, winning the next two matches.
Nick Litsky and
Evan Udine took an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles against Garrett Weinstein and Nik Telkedzhiev, while
Juan Felipe Laso and
Alexander Luckmann secured an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles against Roy Peleg and Ross Kamin.
Moving onto singles, Litsky lost 6-1, 6-2 against Rohan Gupte at the one,
Jamie Anderson fell 6-1, 6-0 against Kevin Kelly at the six,
Nick Lee was defeated 6-0, 6-1 at the five, and Udine was beaten 6-3, 6-2 at the three.
Laso put forth an incredible fight against Weinstein at No. 4 singles. After falling in the first match 6-3, Laso responded with a 6-2 win in the second. The game was decided in the super tiebreaker, in which Weinstein overcame Laso 6-3.
Cooper rounded the day with another hard-fought match, falling 7-5, 6-4 against Jay Glickman at the two.
The Vassar men's tennis team returns home from its Californian spring break stint to play a match against Yeshiva University at the Josselyn Tennis Courts on Sunday, April 3 at 1 p.m.
