IRVINE, CA (March 14, 2016) – The Vassar College women's tennis team performed well in singles play, but ultimately lost 6-3 to Washington College (MD.) at University High School in Irvine, CA on Monday afternoon.
With the loss the Brewers fell to 5-4, while the Shorewomen improved to 3-1.
Singles were contested first, followed by doubles due to morning rain that postponed the match about four hours.
Dasha Ivenistky evened the match at 1-all with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles against MP Hubert, and
Kelsey Van Noy cut the deficit to 3-2 with a 7-6(5), 6-3 win at No. 3 singles against Rachel Martinez. But that would be the closest they would come to turning the match in their favor.
The Shorwomen took a 4-2 edge into doubles before April Weaver and Marielle McIntyre clinched the win with an 8-1 victory over
Shayna Becker and
Hanna McGuire at the one. Still, the Brewers kept battling.
Kate Christensen and
Morgane Flournoy notched Vassar's third win, taking down Krista Filiopoulos and Hubert 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
The Vassar women's tennis team looks to right the ship when it faces Chapman University in Orange, CA on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
