CLAREMONT, CA (March 13, 2016) – The Vassar College men's tennis team fell 9-0 against NESCAC school Amherst College in Claremont, CA on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Brewers dropped to 4-7, while the Purple & White improved to 2-0. No. 8 Amherst, which went 21-6 overall last season, is one of the top teams in the country, but Vassar didn't go down without a fight.
The Brewers hung in there, particularly in doubles play. Daniel Cooper and Nick Zuczek were barely edged 9-7 at the No. 1 spot against Michael Solimano and Aaron Revzin. At No. 2 doubles, Nick Litsky and Alexander Luckmann fell 8-4 to Ben Fife and Zach Bessette, while Juan Felipe Laso and Nick Lee lost by the same score to Andrew Arnaboldi and Carlos de Bracamonte at No. 3 doubles.
Trailing 3-0 after doubles, the top three singles players all put up at least four points against their competitors. Litsky fell 6-3, 6-3 to Aaron Revzin at the one spot, Cooper lost 6-1, 6-4 to Bessette at the two, and Laso was bested 6-1, 6-3 by Solimano at the three.
After dropping the first two matches of their California spring break trip, the Brewers look to get back on track against the Chapman University Panthers in Orange on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
