NEW HAVEN, CT (February 19, 2016) – The Vassar College women's squash team opened play at the 2016 College Squash Association Championships Friday, dropping a 9-0 contest to Wesleyan University in the first round of action in the Epps Cup (D Division).
The Brewers, taking on No. 26 Wesleyan University for the second time in six days, were unable to get much going against the strong Cardinal team. Vassar will now take on No. 30 Boston College tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. in the consolation semifinal at Yale University. Wesleyan will take on William Smith College Saturday.
Vassar had some players perform well on the day Friday, as sophomore
Kelly Rissman took her game to four sets before being edged by Ellen Paik 11-1, 11-7, 9-11 and 13-11. No. 2 player
Fiona Agger evened her match at a game apiece thanks to a 12-10 win in set two, but she was unable to get the upper hand before dropping an 11-6, 10-12, 11-6 and 11-6 finish to Liza Bayless.
Senior
Steph Zhu played well throughout her match at No. 8 for the Brewers, and
Jiamin Wu also started strong but couldn't pull out an 11-9, 11-5 and 11-3 decision.
The Brewers will look to get back to winning tomorrow evening, competing in their second of three matches slated for the weekend.
