POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 17, 2016) – Senior
Caitlin Drakeley was just three assists shy of a triple-double, as the Vassar College women's basketball team cruised by Bard College, 82-42, in its final home game of the season Wednesday.
Drakeley (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) logged a game-high 24 points along with 10 rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
Nicole Teta (Maspeth, NY/Archbishop Molloy) added 13 points with three triples, while fellow freshman
Julia Roellke (Poughkeepsie, NY/Poughkeepsie Day School) grabbed a career-high 11 boards.
Vassar shot 47 percent from the floor and 38 percent (8-of-21) from three, while holding Bard to 25 and 17 (2-of-12) percent, respectively. The Brewers were also generous with the ball, hitting 35 field goals on 27 assists, the most dishes recorded in Vassar women's basketball history. The previous high was 26, which the Brewers most recently compiled against Bard in 2013.
The Brewers also shared the scoring effort, outscoring the Raptors in bench points, 28-3.
Forward Tytravia Riley recorded a monster double-double with 17 points and 17 boards, as the only Raptor to score in double figures.
Bard struggled to control the ball, allowing Vassar to score 26 points off 17 giveaways. Meanwhile, the Raptors salvaged just four points off the Brewers' eight turnovers.
Vassar was also aggressive on the glass, out-rebounding Bard, 49-43, for 20 second-chance points.
The Brewers led by as many as 42 in a win that gives them a 9-15 mark on the season and a 6-9 record in conference play. Meanwhile, the Raptors saw their record drop to 5-19 overall and 0-15 in the Liberty League.
The lead changed twice in the first half, but Vassar never looked back after regaining the lead with the first basket of the second quarter.
At the start the contest, the Brewers led by as many as five before the Raptors used an 11-2 run to take a four-point advantage. The Raptors would twice lead by as many as six, thanks to layups from Riley. The senior made some noise in the first quarter, leading the game with 11 points and seven rebounds in the period.
But Vassar kept chipping away, as Teta ended the first quarter with a triple to deadlock it at 19. Drakeley went on to score the first four points of the second stanza to cap a 10-0 run, putting her team ahead four, 23-19. The Brewers never looked back.
Vassar continued to be aggressive, outscoring Bard, 24-7, in the second quarter.
The Brewers took a 43-26 advantage into the break before outscoring the Raptors, 39-16, in the second half.
The Vassar women's basketball team will conclude its season in Troy, NY when it faces Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m.
