Brewers Rally In Season Finale For 88-74 Win

TROY, NY (February 21, 2016) — In the final game of the season, the Vassar College women's basketball went out with a bang Sunday afternoon when it scored the second-most points in program history with an 88-74 win at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Vassar won its second consecutive 80-plus point game to finish the season with a 10-15 overall and 7-9 Liberty League mark. RPI falls 8-17 and 4-12.

Ariella Rosenthal dropped a career-high 30 points on the Engineers as one of four Brewers to score in double figures. Caitlin Drakeley added 16 points with eight rebounds, Rose Serafini finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and two steals, and Nicole Teta totaled 10 points.

The Engineers outscored the Brewers from the perimeter, 21-0, but Vassar shot 46 percent from the floor and scored 26 points from the line, while RPI shot 35 percent from the floor with 13 points from the stripe.

Sam Krumbhaar led the Engineers with 19 points, Elizabeth Eckhardt scored 12 points and LaKissa Martin tallied 11 points with nine rebounds and three steals.

Rensselaer opened the game with a 20-17 lead after the first quarter and increased the margin to seven points, 43-36, at halftime.

The game turned in the latter stages of the third quarter when Vassar scored 15 of the final 19 points of the frame. Rosenthal tied the score at 52-all with a jumper and then gave the Brewers the lead with another two-pointer 1:03 later.

RPI scored the first two baskets of the fourth quarter to get within two, 60-58, but Vassar answered by scoring 12 of the next 18 points for a 72-64 lead with 3:58 to play. The Engineers got within five points, 74-69, with 2:55 to go, but the Brewers scored six unanswered to get ahead 11 with 1:14 remaining.

RPI got within eight points two times thereafter, but Vassar ended the game by scoring eight of the final 10 points.

The Brewers will likely retain the majority of their young roster next season after saying goodbye to four seniors: Drakeley, Alex MoonColleen O'Connell and Serafini.
