What To Look ForThe Brewers have tasted defeat just twice this season, but in the other opportunity to bounce back Vassar College did just that. After a 3-1 loss to No. 1 Springfield earlier in the season, the Brewers responded with a five-set win over Ramapo College back on January 30. VC will look to repeat that performance on Tuesday evening against a Dolphins team that has struggled this season, going 2-8, though both of CMSV's wins have come at home. If Vassar can continue to swing at an efficient rate, it should have success as Mount Saint Vincent has allowed opposition to hit at a .324 percentage this season.
A Look At The Dolphins (2-8, 1-1 Skyline)The College of Mount Saint Vincent dropped its first seven matches of the season, before breaking through with a 3-0 win over Cairn University. After a loss to Emmanuel College, CMSV responded with a three-set, home win over Skyline foe Sarah Lawrence, posting a season-best hitting clip of .468. Friday night's win over the Gryphons was only the second time all season that Mount Saint Vincent has hit over .200, as both times have resulted in wins. The Dolphins are fourth in the Skyline in hitting percentage this season with a .177 rate, posting 279 kills on the year. CMSV has struggled to defend though, as the .324 hitting percentage against is eighth-best in the in the conference. Adding to that problem is the fact that CMSV is seventh of nine teams in total blocks, while the 7.12 digs per set are second-worst in the Skyline.
Tyler Cucullu is the leading arm for the Dolphins, as he is second in the Skyline Conference in kills per set with 3.21, posting 106 finishes thus far in 2016. Cucullu is also 10
th in hitting percentage with a .241 rate, while Logan Dickover has dished out 6.58 helpers a set, fifth-most in the Skyline. Jordan Steiger is posting 1.52 terminations per set for the Dolphins, while Neven Skoblar has added 47 kills to his resume this campaign. Skoblar also leads the team in digs with 52, and Dickover and Steiger have combined for 93 digs.
Against Mount Saint Vincent All-Time The Brewers are 7-1 against Mount Saint Vincent all time, as Vassar has won the last six outings with the Dolphins. Over that span dating back to 1999, the Brewers have dropped just one game over the last 16 games played with the two squads. Last year, Vassar knocked off CMSV at Bard College in three sets.
None For YouThe Brewers are holding teams to a .155 hitting percentage against, which leads the United Volleyball Conference. VC has allowed a UVC-low 9.22 kills per set against as well.
Sophomore Set UpSecond-year setter
Zechariah Lee (Santa Clarita, CA/Saugus) has been very strong with his hands this season, setting up 9.85 kills per set for the Brewers. That number is second-best in the UVC, while his 0.58 aces per set is also second-best in the conference.
Four Then OneSo far this season, the Brewers have rattled off four games before falling in a contest twice. VC started 4-0, lost to Springfield before stacking together four more wins. That win streak came to an end last Wednesday against No. 6 Stevens.
Dig ManJunior captain
Trey Cimorelli (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) comes into the week third in the UVC in digs per set, averaging 2.74 a game. That rate is 12
th best in NCAA Division III.
TerminatorSenior
Reno Kriz (Breinigsville, PA/Parkland) leads the Brewers in kills per set with 3.39, and ranks first in the United Volleyball Conference and 23
rd nationally.
Block PartySophomore
Matthew Knigge (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) is eighth in the conference in blocks per set with 0.97, leading the team with 35 total rejections.
Mt. LizanaJunior
Christian Lizana (Dublin, PA/Pennridge) is fourth on the team in kills this year, and third in kills per set with 2.14 a set. Lizana has posted seven or more kills in six matches this year.
Up NextThe Brewers will head to Penn State-Behrend to take on the host Lions and Bard College in UVC action from Erie, PA Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m.
