What To Look ForVassar will be looking to snap a two-game skid when it faces Tufts this weekend after falling 9-0 to Wellesley College and 5-4 to Mount Holyoke College on Saturday. The two losses were part of the Seven Sisters Championship, in which the Brewers finished third of four teams. The women started the championship with energy, shutting out Smith College, 9-0, in the day's first match. The Brewers rolled through six matches before earning default wins at No. 7, No. 8 and No. 9.
Hannah Nice (Hanover, NH/Hanover) began by beating Josephine Surer in three sets, 11-3, 11-1, 11-4, for No. 1.
The Brewers continued to roll against Smith College.
Fiona Agger (Brooklyn, NY/Saint Ann's School) notched No. 2 with an 11-3, 11-2,11-3 win over Carly Melillio,
Jiamin Wu (Singapore, Singapore/Raffles Institution) edged Genna Choo, 11-6, 15-13, 11-6, for No.3 and
Isabelle Bertram (Salt Lake City, UT/West) beat Leah Jeon for No. 4, 11-3, 11-3, 11-3. The Brewers kept the shutout in tact, as
Cherylann Mucciolo (Shohola, PA/Blair Academy) and
Diana Howland (New York, NY/Phillips Academy Andover) won in three sets, 11-5, 11-5, 11-2 and 11-4, 11-4, 11-4, respectively. Vassar kept it close against Mount Holyoke, but came up just short of sweeping the day.
A Look At The Tufts Jumbos (10-7)Tufts will be looking to extend its winning streak to four games against Vassar on Saturday, after picking up a 5-4 win over Wesleyan, an 8-1 victory over Connecticut College, and most recently, a 9-0 triumph over Boston University this past week. Against BU, the No. 25 ranked Tufts won eight matches before BU defaulted in the ninth. Six victories came in three games. Chista Irani was particularly dominant for the Jumbos, allowing just four points in her win at No. 4 (11-1, 11-2, 11-1), while Gabi Salomon was also efficient with an 11-5, 11-0, 11-3 victory in the fifth match.
A Look At The Wesleyan Cardinals (10-5)Wesleyan will look to turn its season around, having lost nine of the past 10 games. The Cardinals' lone win in that span came when they earned a 5-4 win over Connecticut College in the NESCAC Championships on Saturday. Later that afternoon, Wesleyan fell 5-4 to Tufts to split the day. Laila Samy swept the No. 1 position in the morning match, cruising to an 11-1, 11-0, 11-0 win. Then against Tufts, Samy took the No. 1 spot over Paget Stanco by scores of 11-6, 11-0, 11-3.
