Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Three Brewers Reach Double-Digit Scoring In Setback

SCHENECTADY, NY (December 31, 2016) — The Vassar College men's basketball team (4-6, 0-2) fell to Union College (5-5, 1-1) in a Liberty League matchup on the road Saturday, 89-66.

Three Brewers reached double-digit scoring, as Alex Seff logged 18 points and six rebounds, Mason Dyslin totaled 14 points and seven boards and Jesse Browne tallied 11 points on 50 percent shooting.

The Brewers shot 43 percent from the floor and 26 percent from deep, while the home team shot 52 and 32 percent, respectively.

Led by Deshon Burgess' 34 points on 67 percent shooting, four Dutchmen reached double figures in the scoring column.

The Brewers led for the majority of the first half, jumping out early 11-5 advantage with 14:34 to go. Mickey Adams and Dyslin opened scoring with back-to-back buckets, Adams fueled the run with four straight points, and Mattie Mrlik capped the spurt with a triple.

Dyslin scored consecutive baskets for the Brewers to push their lead to as many as seven, but Union outscored Vassar 27-7 the rest of the half to take a 42-29 lead at the break.

The Dutchmen sustained a double-digit lead in the second half, but the Brewers remained undeterred. About midway through the half, Vassar strung together four straight field goals — a triple by Tony Caletti and three straight two-pointers by Seff — to cut the margin to 65-49.

Seff's hot hand continued about a minute later, as he drained a three-pointer, thanks to a pass from Dyslin, who took off from there, scoring two of the next three field goals for Vassar to make it a 76-59 game with 5:44 remaining.

Seff halted a 9-0 Union run with a free throw at the 3:26 mark, and the Brewers outscored the Dutchmen 6-2 over the final two minutes. Ryan Huegel highlighted the late burst with back-to-back layups.

Up next, Vassar returns to Poughkeepsie for a five-game homestand, hosting Rochester Institute of Technology (Jan. 6), Hobart College (Jan. 7), Bard College (Jan. 10), Clarkson University (Jan. 13) and St. Lawrence University (Jan. 14).
