Last Time Out: The Vassar men's team, which looks to be deeper in many places this season, had no problems with the Raptors of Bard College in their first meet of the year. Vassar knocked of Bard in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY last Wednesday 130-85. On that day, Junior Jonah Strand won the 100 breast with a time of 59.72, while freshman Jordan Kalina also took the 200 free with a 1L56.46. Sophomore Michael Deiner won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events for the Brewers.

A Look At The Brewers:

  • The Brewers will look to a pair of senior captains this season, as Cerutti and Walker were voted to lead the way for Vassar this season.
  • 14 states are represented on the Vassar College men's swimming roster, including one of just two student-athletes from Wisconsin this year at Vassar in Anthony Walker.
  • In the season opening win, Walker earned three victories, helping the Brewers to a win in the 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and the 100 fly.
  • Freshman Jordan Kalina was part of three wins on the day at Bard last Wednesday, as he earned the 200 free, 500 free and helped in a 200 free relay victory.
  • Sophomore Lukas Harries picked up a win in the 50 freestyle in his first meet of the season, swimming a 22.67. Freshman Matthew Imiolek was right behind him with a 23.58.
  • Harries was back at it with another win in the 100 free, posting a 51.51, and Ian LaBash was third in that race with a 52.71.
  • Cerutti started his senior season with a bang, taking the 100 yard backstroke easily with a 58.79, which had a strong split of 27.87 during it, one of his best 50s ever.
  • Deiner posted 175.90 points in the 3-meter diving event for Vassar, while topping teammate Connor Martin in the 1-meter with a 166.45.

A Look At The Thoroughbreds:

  • The Skidmore men's squad has started the season in fine fashion this year, going 2-0 thanks to a 129-72 win over St. Lawrence and a 173-115 victory over Potsdam.
  • Against Potsdam, the men's team of Harrison Shockley, Hiro Kamei, Carl Mellqvist and Gabe Salitan-Alvarez teamed to win the 200 MR (1:43.54). Kamei repeated to win the 100 breast (1:04.46) and 200 IM (2:09.99), and added a win in the 200 breast (2:26.28).
  • Salitan-Alvarez recorded wins in both the 200 free (1:53.50) and 500 free (5:19.49) while Shockley won both the 100 (58.94) and 200 back (2:09.68).
  • Against the Bears, Kevin Brito won both the 1 meter (207.75) and 3 meter (212.35) diving events for the men.
  • Kinser Bonner touched first in the 200 fly (2:11.97) in a lifetime best time and Jason Hansen won the 1000 free (11:07.77).
  • Earlier in the season against SLU, the men swept both relays, starting with a convincing win in the 200 MR (1:45.07) with Shockley, Ben Rudman, Bailey Best and Daryl Kwan teaming up. Shockley was also part of the 200 Free Relay that just out touched SLU's team by 0.5 second.
  • Saturday will mark the Thoroughbred's third road meet to start the season before hosting Union College in Williamson Sports Center next weekend.

Against Skidmore Last Year: The Brewers knocked off Skidmore last season 155-131, as Alex May earned two wins in the 1000 and 500 freestyle events, while Anthony Walker earned wins in the 200 fly and 100 free. Greg Cristina won the 50 free as well, while Jonah Stand topped the 200 breast.

Up Next: Vassar will host Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute next Saturday at 1 p.m. in Kresge Pool.
