Mencotti Earns Pair of Wins As Brewer Men’s Squash Topped Twice Saturday

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 19, 2016) – Senior captain and No. 1 Vincent Mencotti was able to earn a pair of wins on Saturday, but the Brewer men's squash team was unable to chalk up a win as the Vassar College men's squash team saw its four-match winning streak come to an end in play from Kenyon Hall.

The Brewers were topped by Connecticut College 8-1, followed by another 8-1 loss to Haverford College in the nightcap. Mencotti was the story for the Brewers, as he was able to pick up his third and fourth wins of the season.

In the opener, Vassar (4-2) struggled as the Camels were able to show their depth throughout the lineup. Mencotti started his match with an 11-3, but Michael Rodriguez battled back with an 11-9 victory to tie the contest at one set apiece. In the third, both players battled but Mencotti held the upper hand with an 11-4 win. In the fourth set, Mencotti would clinch the match thanks to great drive shots deep into the court, winning the game 11-7.

In the afternoon, Mencotti earned a straight set victory, chalking up an 11-4, 14-12 and 11-9 win over Peter Dudley of Haverford. Freshman Viraj Nadkarni won the first set against Tate Miller, but wasn't able to hold on as he fell 8-11, 11-3, 11-3 and 11-7. Haverford picked up the remaining seven matches, all in straight sets.

Vassar will host Bard College and Tufts University December 4 at 11 a.m. in Kenyon Hall.
