POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 30, 2016) – The Vassar College women's squash team, which was competing for the first time in nearly two months, did not show any rust as the Brewers rolled past Georgetown University and Boston University to capture the women's title in the Hudson Valley Team Tournament.
Vassar 9, Georgetown 0Vassar had no issues in knocking off the short-handed Hoyas, who were only able to have six players at their disposal on Saturday. That did not affect the Brewers though, who rolled through the six matches that were played, while earning default wins at No. 7, No. 8, and No. 9.
Sophomore
Hannah Nice picked up her first of two wins on Saturday against GU, as she rolled to an 11-5, 11-5, and 11-4 victory at No. 1. Nice is now 7-1 this season in her eight matches. Freshman
Fiona Agger started with an impressive 11-0 score line in No. 2, finishing off Anne Scattergood with an 11-0, 11-5, 11-6 win.
Freshman
Jiamin Wu edged Elizabeth Johnson at No. 3 in the first two games, 11-7 and 11-9, but pulled away for an 11-0 victory to clinch the win. Junior
Isabelle Bertram, who recently returned from her semester abroad, earned her first win of the season with an 11-3, 11-4, and 11-6 victory, and sophomore
Cherylann Mucciolo chalked up a straight set win with scores of 11-7, 11-8, and 11-4. The most exciting match of the day for VC came at No. 6, as
Diana Howland outlasted Megan Milles in five games.
Howland earned the first set 11-5, but Milles responded with an 11-8 win in the second game to even the match at one game a piece. Howland again took the lead with an 11-6 win, but once again an 11-8 win for Milles knotted the match. In the end though, Howland earned the 11-7 win in the fifth set for the victory.
Vassar 9, Boston University 0VC stayed undefeated on the afternoon with another 9-0 win over the Bulldogs of BU, with dominating performances at multiple positions. Nice rolled to an easy three-set win, allowing just three points in a 11-2, 11-0, and 11-1 triumph, while Agger was equally impressive after chalking up a three-set, 11-4, 11-1, 11-4 victory.
Wu added her second win of the day with an 11-7, 11-7, 11-4 win over Lily Wacker of BU, and Bertram stayed undefeated with an 11-6, 11-5, and 11-5 win. At No. 5, Mucciolo added another win to her tally for the season, her fifth victory on the year, with a 11-7, 11-4, 11-9 win
Howland was Vassar's sixth double-winner on Saturday, adding an 11-0, 11-9, and 11-5 triumph, while
Emma Glickman topped Molly Papermaster of BU with scores of 11-5, 11-4, and 11-4. Senior
Steph Zhu dispatched Shelby Bannon at No. 8 after posting wins of 11-7, 11-4, and 11-5, and sophomore
Kelly Rissman earned an 11-1, 11-8, 11-7 win at No. 9.

Vassar College will host the Seven Sisters Championships in Kenyon Hall next Saturday, February 6, in Poughkeepsie.
