Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Vassar Tops Bard, 65-61

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY (January 26, 2016) — The Vassar College men's basketball team held off Bard College for a 65-61 win on the road Tuesday night.

Led by senior Erikson Wasyl's 21 points, three Brewers scored in double figures at the Stevenson Athletic Center. Jesse Browne (Barrington, RI/Deerfield Academy) scored 12 points with nine rebounds, while Mickey Adams (Boston, MA/St. Sebastian's School) added 11.

The Raptors shot more efficiently from the floor (43 percent to Vassar's 36), but the Brewers edged them from beyond the arc, scoring 24 points to their 15.

Vassar also took advantage of Bard's mistakes, scoring 19 points off its 17 giveaways.

With the win, the Brewers improve to 8-9 overall and 4-4 in conference play, while the Raptors drop to 6-12 and 3-6 in the Liberty League.

Browne scored Vassar's first five points to match Bard, Adams rolled one in for the go-ahead layup, and the Brewers never looked back from there.

Adams hit a jumper on the next possession to continue what would be a 14-2 run that put the Brewers up 19-7 with 12:18 left in the half. Wasyl (Durham, CT/Coginchaug) highlighted the surge with consecutive triples to build even more momentum for the Brewers.

Wasyl's red-hot shooting wouldn't stop there, as he later hit back-to-back treys to give the Brewers their largest lead of the half, a 13-point, 30-17 advantage with 4:39 to go.

Vassar controlled the first half to score twice as many field goals, hitting 12-of-31 compared to Bard's 6-of-20.

After trailing 32-23 at the break, Bard outscored Vassar 38-33 in the second half to make it a close ballgame down the stretch.

Bard cut the Vassar's lead to five in the first few minutes of the second half, but the Brewers responded with a 20-9 run to give them their largest lead, a 16-point, 54-38 advantage with 10:28 to play.

Ten unanswered points by the Raptors brought them back into the game, and with less than a minute to play, they trimmed the lead to 59-55.

Vassar connected on 6 of its 8 free throws in the final seconds to secure the win.

DeVahnte Mosley scored all 18 of his points in the second half, Emmanuel Rainey added 17 and Brandon Cunningham finished with 14 for the Raptors.

The Brewers return to Poughkeepsie for four games at home, beginning with an 8 p.m. contest against Clarkson University on Friday in the Athletics and Fitness Center.
