POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (September 16, 2015) – The Vassar men's tennis team was in action for a midweek dual match Wednesday afternoon, falling to Williams College 9-0 at Joss Courts. The match was just the second of the season for the Brewers, who now move to 0-2. Williams improves to 1-0 in the team's first match of the fall season.
Vassar had its hands full with one of the top teams in the country, as Williams finished the 2014-15 season slotted 13th in the ITA National rankings. The Brewers still managed to take several games off the NESCAC powerhouse, as the team christened Joss Courts for the venue's first official competition of the fall.
Jordan Sadowsky and Rohan Shastri picked up the first win of the afternoon over senior Evan Udine (Delray Beach, FL/Boca Raton Community) and junior Alexander Luckmann (Berkeley, CA/Head-Royce School) winning 8-6 at No. 2 doubles. Sachin Raghavan and Brian Grodecki would next down junior Juan Felipe Laso (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio American de Quito) and freshman Nick Lee (Larchmont, NY/Mamaroneck) 8-4 at No. 3. Williams then earned the sweep at doubles after Jose Raventos and Alex Schidlovsky earned an 8-4 decision at No. 1 over junior Nick Litsky (St. Petersburg, FL /Shorecrest Prep. School) and senior Daniel Cooper (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont).
The Ephs carried that momentum into singles play, grinding out six more victories for the clean sweep. Raventos clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Laso. Cooper battled from behind against Shastri in the No. 2 match, winning 7-6 in the second set after going down 6-1 in the first. Shastri eventually came up with the third set tiebreak, winning 10-4.
Vassar will welcome teams from around the region to Joss Courts next weekend, September 25-27 for the ITA Northeast Regional Tennis Tournament. Stay tuned to vassarathletics.com and @VassarAthletics for updates.
