NEW LONDON, CT (September 12, 2015) – The Vassar men's tennis team came up short in its fall opener Saturday afternoon, surrendering a 5-4 decision to the United States Coast Guard Academy. The Bears took two of three doubles matches, then captured three more singles bouts to clinch the team victory. Vassar moves to 0-1 in dual matches on the year, while the Coast Guard improves to 1-0.

The Bears got off to a 2-1 edge after doubles, securing victories in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches. Junior Nick Litsky (St. Petersburg, FL/Shorecrest Prep. School) and freshman Nick Lee (Larchmont, NY/Mamaroneck) claimed a victory at No. 3, as the Brewers went into singles down one.

VC went up 3-2 after Litsky and senior Daniel Cooper (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) earned victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. The Coast Guard retook the lead shortly after, picking up wins in the No. 6 and No. 4 matches to take a 4-3 advantage. A three-set victory for junior Juan Felipe Laso (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio American de Quito) brought both sides at four, before Mike Melampy clinched the match with a 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5.
