Brewers Roll Past Bard, 12-3

Box Score

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 18, 2015) – Freshman Olivia O'Loughlin (Morristown, NJ/Oak Knoll School of Holy Child) finished with a game-high three goals, while seven other Brewers recorded a goal as Vassar topped Bard College 12-3 Saturday afternoon. VC never trailed in the game at Weinberg Field, using a 6-0 run between the first and second halves to get up big on the Raptors. Vassar now stands at 7-5 on the season and 4-3 in the Liberty League, and moves into the No, 3 position in the conference standings after a pair of losses from RPI and Rochester this afternoon. Bard drops to 2-10 (0-7 Liberty) with the loss.

Freshman Hannah Cho (West Hartford, CT/Hall) and O'Loughlin got the Brewers started early, posting a pair of goals in the opening minutes to give the hosts a 2-0 lead. Bard answered back with a goal from Joanna Regan at the 23:35 mark, cutting the VC advantage back to one.

It was all Vassar from that point on as the Brewers rattled off five more goals over the next 12 minutes to bust the game wide open, 7-1. Neither side could find the net in the closing minutes of the half, but VC still went into the break up six goals.

Junior Kim Mulvehill (Sudbury, MA/Chapel Hill – Chauncey Hill) got Vassar on the board first in the second half, scoring the team's first woman-down goal of the season at the 28:44 mark. The teams would trade goals over the next several minutes, before VC ended the game on a three-goal tear from sophomore Julia Trudell (Newtown, CT/Newtown), freshman Amelia Rivior (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) and O'Loughlin.

The Brewers held Bard to just 10 shots and only six on goal, while forcing 28 turnovers from the Raptors. Senior Hilary McDonnell (Blue Bell, PA/The Springside School) earned her first win of the year in goal for VC, making two saves and allowing just one goal to earn the victory.

Vassar will play its final non-conference game on season on Tuesday, April 21 when the Brewers battle local Hudson Valley rival Mt. St. Mary (NY) at 6 pm on Weinberg Field.
