What To Look ForThe Brewers had knocked off the Raptors 8-1 in the previous meeting during the Liberty League Championships, but the infusion of some new key players to the Bard squad helped propel it past Vassar last week 5-4. The two teams battle for the season series win this weekend, and it should be an exciting match due to the rivalry with the two squads. The final three games of the match will be ones to look for, as No. 1, No. 4 and No. 7 will be hugely important to the match outcome.
A Look At The RaptorsThe Raptors earned their first two wins of the season last weekend against VC and Brandeis University. Last weekend, Bard got a pair of wins from Matt Lampeter at No. 2, while Jack Smith also earned two victories from his No. 3 position. Newcomer Ayateru Maeda captured wins in both ends of the doubleheader last weekend, and Abe Etkin also was a double winner for the Raptors. The wins for the Raptors snapped a 28-match losing streak.
Against Bard All-TimeThe Brewers have gone 30-1 against Bard College in the men's squash court in the series history, dating back to 1989. The victory last week for the Raptors was the first ever against Vassar.
Big VinSophomore No. 1 player
Vincent Mencotti (Birmingham, MI/Brother Rice) has gone 6-5 this season at the top spot, the one of only two players this year to have a individual winning record on the year. Mencotti has also won three straight matches.
GarfSenior captain
David Garfinkel (Larchmont, NY/Mamaroneck) recently dropped in the lineup due to the return of some players from abroad, and has since prospered at his No. 5 spot, going 2-0 at that position.
Welcome BackJunior
Ben Kurchin (Rochester, NY/Harley School) took over at No. 6 last week for his second and third matches of the season, and earned a pair of victories after returning from his junior semester abroad.
Tripped UpVassar College has gone 0-3 on the road this season, falling at NYU, Fordham and Haverford this year.
Up NextThe Brewers will finish its season as a team February 20-22 at the College Squash Association Team Championships in West Hartford, CT, hosted by Trinity College.
