NEW LONDON, CT (December 5, 2015) -- Sophomore
Hannah Nice (Hanover, NH/Hanover) took care of business in both of her matches Saturday afternoon, but unfortunately it wasn't enough for the Vassar College women's sqaush team in a pair of 8-1 losses to host Connecticut College and Mount Holyoke College.
Nice started the afternoon with a great dual with Brandy Williamson of Mount Holyoke College (1-2), as the thrilling match went five sets. Nice dropped the first game 13-11, but rallied for a 14-12 win to even the match up at one set apiece. Williamson regained her one-game lead with a 11-6 victory in the third set, but Nice changed her strategy in the fourth game which allowed her to pick up a 11-9 win to send the match the distance. For the third game of the five-setter, the stanza required extra points and Nice triumphed with a thrilling 14-12 victory at No. 1 singles.
Freshman
Fiona Agger (Brooklyn, NY/Saint Ann's School) played well at No. 2 singles against Rhagini Ghose, but was only able to earn one set in a 11-7, 11-7, 9-11 and 11-3 loss. Fellow freshman
Jiamin Wu (Singapore/Raffles Institution) lost in four games, while newcomer
Kelly Rissman (Wilmette, IL/New Trier) won the first two games, but couldn't hold on as Tanishka Sachidanand rallied for a 8-11, 2-11, 11-5, 11-8 and 12-10 win.
Against host Connecticut College (4-0), Nice was rarely tested as she rolled to an 11-3, 11-6, 11-7 win. All of the other matches were decided in three games for the Camels, though Agger was in each set before falling in straight games.
The Brewers (3-3) will rematch Connecticut College at home January 23 at 11 a.m. in Kenyon Hall after the Holiday break.
