POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 24, 2015) – The Vassar College women's squash team opened its season at their home courts in a match against Colgate University. The Brewers faced some tough competition, but ended the day on top as they earned the win, scoring a 5-4 victory against the Raiders. The VC women's squash squad is ranked No. 35 nationally.
Each one of the Brewers that won overall scored perfect games, winning their first three games of the day.
Hannah Nice (Hanover, NH/Hanover), sophomore and team captain, won the No. 1 singles flight as she glided to an 11-3, 11-2, 11-3 win over Colgate's Freesia Ferrantino.
Freshmen
Fiona Agger (Brooklyn, NY/Saint Ann's School) and
Jiamin Wu (Singapore, Singapore/Raffles Institution) took the No. 2 and No. 3 games respectively in their first collegiate matches, both coming out unscathe. Agger posted a 11-4, 11-2, 11-3 victory, while Wu won in straight sets with scores of 11-4, 11-7, 11-4.
Two other sophomores on the VC squad secured secure the win for the Brewers as they won at the No. 4 and No. 9 positions.
Cherylann Mucciolo (Shohola, PA/Blair Academy) won her battle with an 11-6, 11-1, 11-5 score line, while
Xinran Qi (Beijing, China/ Beijing National Day) came in with the final win, scoring a 11-0, 11-5, 11-8 victory.
The Brewers will see tough competition as they host the Hudson Valley Individual Tournament Saturday, November 7 in Kenyon Hall.
