POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 21, 2015) - The Vassar women's swim team dove into its 2015-16 campaign Wednesday evening, downing Bard College 142-71 in dual meet action at Kresge Pool. The Brewers had nine total event victories to seal the team win, while several individuals posted quality early season marks. Vassar now improves to 1-0 in dual meets to start the year, while Bard moves to 0-1.

Freshman Sammy Stone was one of several first-year Brewers to make her collegiate debut, and she did so in style winning two events. She picked up her first win of the day in the 100 butterfly with a mark of 1:01.59. Stone went on to win the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:14.82, a little over six seconds off the Vassar school record (5:08.30).

Fellow freshman Kael Ragnini also won her first ever collegiate race, finishing in 11:08.02 to place first in the 1000 free. She also hit a solid mark of 5:33.88 in the 500 free to take second.

Vassar swept the first three spots in the 100 freestyle, as senior Lily Frye (58.17), freshman Meg Harrington (58.80) and sophomore Cali Corbett (1:02.08) combined to score 16 points for the Brewers. Vassar also posted the top three finishers in the 50 free, led by Frye (26.05) Harrington (26.82) and Julia Wiezorek (27.63).

Julia Cunningham picked up right where she left off from her All-American season a year ago, swimming the fastest time in the 200 IM (2:14.14) and a career-best 1:10.99 in the 100 breaststroke.

Cunningham, senior Anna Kuo, freshman Hayley Schultz and Stone posted the top time for Vassar in the 200 yard medley relay, finishing in 1:57.17. The mark was over four seconds faster than the top VC time posted in its season opening meet against Bard last season on October 29, 2014. Frye, Schmidt, Harrington and Nelson teamed up to swim the top time in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1:47.01.

Senior Maya Pruitt and sophomore Nora Kyrkjebo also had solid season debuts in the diving well, scoring personal-bests in the 3-meter event. Pruitt took first with a mark of 232.05 in the six dive event, while Kyrkiebo took second with a combined score of 224.70. Freshman Mia Moraru posted the top mark in the women's 1-meter event with a score of 209.85.
