What to Look ForThe Brewers have infamously never taken a single match this season to five sets, so look out for a quick match - as the women have seen either a sweep or a match to four every time they've taken the court this 2015 season.
A Look at the Gators (18-8 Overall, 5-1 Empire 8)The Gators have had a fairly successful season, with two impressive winning streaks this year; one recently cut off at six and another of 24 in regular season conference play.
They also delivered their coach's 100th win when they bested the Bard College Raptors at home at the Neff Athletic Center in early October 3-0.This was the 100th career win for head coach Sandy Augestein-Collins, a class of 1987 alumni of The Sage Colleges. Augestein-Collins has a 100-65 career record with Sage women's volleyball.
Junior setter and captain Rachel Liebig recently had a landmark performance against the Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a non-conference contest at the Neff Athletic Center on their home court where she had 30 setting assists and became the fourth player in program history to hit her 2,000th career assist. She currently sits at 2,014 career assists - No. 4 all-time at Sage. She was also named Skyline Conference Player of the Week in early October after helping the Gators to a 3-0 week.
Against Sage All-TimeVassar saw the Gators on their senior day last season, where they won 3-0 and were led in kills by three now-alumni:
Clara Cardillo,
Taylor Mosley, and
Marie Pitre. The Brewers have bested the Gators in every contest they've matched up for since 2005.
Home StretchThe Brewers are entering the final quarter of their season, with only seven matches left. In their last Liberty League competition on Friday Oct. 16, they collected two 3-0 wins against Bard College and Skidmore College on their home-away-from-home court in the Athletics and Fitness Center at Vassar. The following day, they travelled to nearby Bard College where they dropped two matches, also sweeps, to Rochester Institute of Technology and Union College. Vassar needed a 3-1 record on the weekend to at least make the conversation for conference playoffs, and lacking that, they have been statistically eliminated from 2015 postseason play.
Devan DominatesDuring the Brewers' last competition, freshman hitter
Devan Gallagher(San Francisco, CA/Urban School of San Francisco), had her season best performance with a career-high 17 kills - the most on Vassar's squad that day. She currently sits No. 1 for the Brewers' offense this year - posting 2.93 kills per set and with a .221 overall hitting percentage.
Hallum HelpsSenior captain and four-year starting libero
Chloe Hallum(Olympia, WA/Olympia) posted 20 digs against Union College and 10 against RIT - her 11th and 12th straight performances delivering at least 10 digs in a match. RIT marked Hallum's fourth 20-dig match of the 2015 season, chalking up her 37th overall 20-dig match at Vassar.
Minuscule MarginsVassar's last two losses might seem significant on a large scale, but are actually quite small upon closer inspection. At the Brewers' last Liberty League weekend, they lost to RIT by a total of just 13 and to Union by a margin of only seven points total.
Not So LongThe Brewers evened their longest win straight of the season this past weekend with three consecutive wins, but couldn't keep it going with two losses Saturday.
Home CookingThe Brewers are 5-1 this season on the campus of Vassar, whether it's in the AFC or Kenyon Hall. Neutral sites haven't been kind to VC, posting a 4-8 record in such games.
Power UpLast Friday against Skidmore, Vassar College posted 42 kills, which was the third-most in a match this year and the highest total in a three-set win since last year's season finale against Sage.
Up NextThe Brewers will play next at Amherst College in Amherst, MA on October 23rd at 7:30 p.m. in the Hall of Fame Tournament, hosted by Amherst and Smith College.
